The lads who occupied the Salvation Army have now taken over the Iveagh Markets. Don’t know how I feel about it. More in the comments.

Part of me thinks “great, this will light a fire under those who think Dubliners will just accept this place crumbling” but they also infer that Eddie Guinness is an “absentee English lord”, do they not know that his family built the thing? The clue is in the name like.
It’s not Guinness’s fault that the high court case is deferred until October. He’s basically trying what these guys are doing only he has a legitimate claim on it and didn’t break into it.
Fucking twitter warrior are pathetic
Morto
Are they going to spend the money to develop it? Or just… sit there and take photos of themselves?
Madlads.
Scarleh
These fools would do a lot more for housing if the 7 of them got jobs in the construction industry.
It’s very easy to sit on the sideline and moan about people doing *something.*
[This](https://twitter.com/RositaSweetman/status/1552249278805966851) is what the markets looked like when handed over to a developer **20 years ago**. But sure, let’s give it some more time.
Maybe if we had more people actually willing to do something rather than bitch and moan about things this country wouldn’t in as sorry a state as it is.
We’re meek as fuck in this country when it comes to actually fighting for change.
Send in the slurry spreaders to flush them out.
They took over an abandoned property with no owner?
Not a job to rub between them.
They should turn the place into a timeout market like in Lisbon be serious craic!!
https://www.timeoutmarket.com/lisboa/
I’ve read there they hold all their food stalls to high quality food. Food must be made onsite and traditionally
Be a great attraction for dublin over another hotel
Fantastic. Now clean it up.
The Guinness family is incredibly wealthy and presumably owns lots of property in Ireland. Would they not have a vested interest in keeping housing prices inflated? How is it at all appropriate for them to be involved in the construction of “affordable housing”?
We need the government to produce social housing, to actively undermine the insane housing prices we see in Ireland by building a large quantity of social housing and not outsourcing these properties to anyone with conflicting interests in favour of the status-quo.
Lol what are these guys doing to do with it? It needs private investment and someone at the end of the day needs to make a profit.
I agree something should be done with the place, and not turned into a generic hotel, but what can these guys actually do?
Nothing wrong with a bit of LARP
Never understood why some people defend empty buildings in the city that have been left to rot and become derelict.
Any raised awareness to this issue is always good but it’s not going to do anything, vacant tax in 3 2 2 2 2.
There’s 7 people in the picture so 70 guards to evict them and another 70 to stand around looking at things.
It’s absolutely disgraceful this beautiful building has been left to rot. When it was handed to the developer the roof was still ok etc, I don’t understand how they let it get so bad. I’m from the area, and still live here. I support these lads .
Are they actually sleeping in there amongst the rats? They must have cut locks to gain entry would that not make it a criminal offence or will they insist on a court order and barricade themselves in until Gardai remove them again? Are these people affiliated with any party or are they a group of homeless people themselves?
I know it’s a bit reductive to tone police, but by god they’d get a lot further if they just spoke or wrote like normal people.
Not everything needs to be “liberation” this or “comrade” that.
Imagine they tweeted “This is a space that’s been lying vacant for years, and we don’t think that’s right. So we’re trying to put it to good use for the community”.
Morons, maybe it’ll start some action with the place which would be good but in the meantime i hope the guards crack a few skulls.
So are they just squatters then ? Or are they going to do anything with the place like fix it up ?
