any plug can go in the lower one, it is not the case of the upper one (in particular old devices). Also, the lower one is better looking.
Ignoring the wiring behind them. I find them equally advantageous and disadvantaged depending on where each style is. If you have to choose though, which one are you taking?
^(Rules mandated top level post)
The lower one is afaik no longer legal for new installations, the indentation provides additional protection against touching the prongs.
Typ 12(the lower one) is no lomger allowed anyway, and much less save. So Typ 13(upper one) wins by a mile.
Top because any shearing force applied to the plug is only supported by the front cover with both designs. With the socket face recessed the plug can cant itself inside the recess, with the flat face all forces are supported by the front cover holes only.
The one with additional safety device inside the holes, which is not shown here.
From experience, both sucks. Some plug just cover the hold socket most of the time for me.
upper one is safer and better imo. lower one is illegal in new insrallations. However certain Plugs can only fit into the lower one because they are too wide to fit into the upper hole so its nice having atleast one of the lower ones in your house.
upper one is called T13 and lower T12 btw. Or to be accurate 3xT13 Feller Edizio due UP ws
I hate them all, they are so annoying with Bulky chargers
Lower one all the way. Not as safe but at least you can plug different types of plugs in there
I just really don’t like the ABB Sidus style sockets and switches, they feel so cheap and flimsy. We have them everywhere in my school and my grandparents also have them in their home and I absolutely hate them, in school every single one is damaged or rather doesn’t grip the plug properly anymore (I know they are treated badly) but the well-treated ones at my grandparents also just fell so flimsy, as well as their switches
I much prefer the Feller EdizioDue style, they feel so much more like a quality product
Given that all of these have the third prong in the middle pointing inwards, why do plug manufacturers treat that as “down” on adapters and big plugs?
Like they go out of their way to make you buy extensino cords because so many devices you could plug only one of into these star configurations.
Stupid, stupid design. And the bottom one is effing unsafe in terms of exposing the prongs, catching dust and moisture in the holes, providing insufficient stability against sideways movement (breaking or bending pins) and offer no advantage over the top one. So that’s stupid and dangerous design.
lower one, because you can shove 2 big chargers in side by side.
using the L of one of the plugs and the N of the other
and the other charger just plugs in normally
that dosn’t matter though, as the chargers don’t use the PE anyways.
The upper one (specified as Type 13) is required, as the lower one (Type 12) is not allowed in new installations. (You could lawfully replace one, but some of the producers stopped selling).
The problem with the T12 is, that the prongs of a plug which are fully out of metal (look at your old devices) connect to the power before its fully plugged in.
Kids fingers are especially good to reach in there. As a new regualtion says you only can have partly-isolated plugs and only recessed sockets (T13/T23) sockets, its impossible to get kids hands or tools in a socket/plug combination.
So for sake of safery, the T13 wins, alltrough many enjoy the lower one (especially since its easier to clean).
It gets frustrating when you want to plug two chargers or even a charger and a normal plug. There’s no space. What a waste of space…
As a certified electrician, I have to say the 3xT13, of course for safety and specially the safety of the children. And it’s illegal to install the T12 anymore and it’s of course for safety only, they do function the same.
T12 FTW. When you have older appliances with weird plugs, they come in handy.
Oh god these are both horrible
Neither of them. Both are terrible designs. The fact that the shape of the plug is symmetric, but the bolts are not makes it hard to plug in a plug without looking at the socket 😓. Just like the USB 🤷🏼♂️
Neither because I can’t fit my fat chargers in there
I understand why the lower one is illegal now. As a kid I touched the prongs while connecting the plug…
Both are equally terrible designs that make no sense.
Why have this cluster where very few plugs are designed to be used three at a time in this config?
Swiss plugs do strike me as an example of aesthetic design over function.
The lower is better as at least its compatible with the rest of continental Europe.

Upper one
By far
