UK launches register of overseas property owners in clampdown on ‘corrupt elites’

  1. I think stoppng anyone without a UK citizenship buying property in the UK would be a good start. Pension funds and other nation states shouldn’t be allowed to buy tranches of land or tower blocks.

I want a clarify this. I definitely don’t mean EU workers or any immigrants who need shelter. I’m talikg about groups who buy flats as investment properties off plan for the sole purpose of renting them out.

  2. >oligarchs and others may still avoid identification by nominating a beneficial owner and registering that individual instead.

    🙁

ah well, at least they tried……

  3. Name and shame the foreign ‘corrupt elites’ so that the UK based ‘corrupt elites’ can keep getting away with shafting you.

Because essentially that’s what it all boils down to, play up to the inherent underlying xenophobia of the majority of the country to keep them distracted from the 1% driving a huge wedge into wealth inequality.

That’s why “Take back control of our borders” worked.

That’s why “Get Brexit done” worked for Boris.

That’s why Rishi won’t be elected Tory Party Leader

  4. “UK launches register of overseas property owners in clampdown on ‘corrupt elites'”

Tory party uses state resources to make a list of people they can probably ask for money ahead of the next election.

  5. Could do with a general register/database of properties and their statuses; I’d love to know how how much of the year housing sits empty, how much is actually owned and lived in, how much is rented etc

I don’t see why the government is only targeting overseas investors for the register, they’re part of the problem, not the whole picture. Widen the scope

  6. Bit of a joke to come and claim UK workers are lazy and should work harder because they can’t afford their own houses. Can’t imagine living in a country where you hate on everyone who built it.

  7. If you want a list of corrupt elites, just go to the UK parliament website and filter by “Conservative MP”.

Then when that’s done, get the list of Tory Party donors.

There you go, that’s your list.

  8. There’s a 100% chance this won’t hit anyone who it should be hitting and just make things more expensive for a random Indian guy who owns a 2 bedroom flat in Hounslow.

The rich never pay the price. The pay the lawyer and the lawyer finds a way
