Also devastates the UK production crews who used to run most of the international tours and employ 1000s of crew.
Good, good. High time that the entire music industry reskilled in something useful like “cyber” /s
I know of lots of small acts that would usually come here who’ve given up. The internet is basically the only contact they have with us now. Their labels dont even really trade here now – they do it through sites like amazon, spotify, bandcamp etc.
Pffft, “musicians”. What do they know, anyway? They should just get *real* jobs in cyber.
i voted remain, now we all have to suffer
I bet the drug suppliers have found their way round the nonsense fo keep their businesses afloat.
Own the win. Own the win
Goes both ways. Band I know cancelled their European tour because of fuel prices and the additional barriers to touring imposed by Brexit.
Brexit, the gift that keeps on giving.
Tried to buy an electric van, did a trip round dealerships to see what there was. Not only is there no Electric vans, but also no Diesel. Most forecourts had maybe 1-2 vans actually there, most of the time it was 2nd hand stock that had just been traded in. They couldn’t even guestimate when they would have new stock.
I asked what’s happening. “Manufacturers are holding more stock in Europe because they make more money selling them in Europe”. I never asked why sadly. I have no doubt its because of red tape caused by Brexit. Why else would it be? Easier to keep more in the EU than to move stock to the UK?
Lack of vans makes them more expensive, this makes the shit you buy more expensive. Everything is transported in a Lorry or a Van.
I had a e-mail from the Ford dealership I bought my last van from in Nov 2021. Saying if you needed new vans for your fleet, you’d need to order now to have a chance of getting them before the end of 2022. Over a year waiting.
You can only do Factory orders with no ETA for delivery.
Most leasing companies are now listings vans based more on expected delivery time rather than based on the price. Delivery within 3 months is now seen as a huge selling point.
A retired neighbour bought a Transit camper at the start of the year. Apparently because of Brexit, the van cannot go straight from Turkey to Germany to be outfitted as a camper. It has to go from Turkey to UK then go from UK to Germany and back. So it got stuck in the UK customs and misses its slot to be outfitted in Germany. ETA is now next year.
Why is this important? Because the exact same thing is happening to specialist vans and lorries needing outfitted for specialist uses. Stories of lorries not being delivered because they get stuck in customs.
Vans and Lorries are what keep or economy moving.
The addition of more steps, more customs, more red tape is FUCKING us. Its costs us time and money, and making everything more expensive.
It says not a tremendous amount of bands are skipping the UK. So vague. Any actual numbers?
They’re going to hate it when they find out they have the same restrictions to go to any other non-eu country.
Propagandist bullshit, don’t know why people fall for this shit everytime
Good. Brexit voters need to learn how to play the harp and start hanging around playing in town centres. With a jesters hat and bells on their feet of course. Fucking clowns.
So, some bands are skipping UK festivals or the cheeky UK warm up gig for the European festival circuit. Are they binning off UK tours altogether?
I go to a lot of underground metal gigs and I have to be completely honest it doesn’t seem to be effecting international acts that much, I have a feeling this affects the ‘medium’ sized acts who want and need loads of money for performances.
Oh well.
Essential Boris screwed everything up all the time he has been in power
Fantastic. No food on the shelves, higher costs for everything, bullshit and red tape to travel abroad and now less live music.
I really hope this shower of cunts are happy with their blue passports.
For clarity- if you voted for brexit, no ifs ands or buts, you are a cunt.
The far right despise culture
Yes, such a shame that British bands like the Beatles and Slade never got to tour Europe due to our refusal to remain part of the EU. Oh Yeah, that never happened, because the EEC was a trading bloc, not an unwanted political organisation with far to much influence in the way that the nations under it’s auspice are run
How do artists from say outside the EU get over here then? I have been to see plenty. Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Sound Garden. Nikki Minaj just headlined wireless festival the other week. Surely it would work the same way from within the EU to the UK
Not Brexit’s fault. Nothing ever is, is it??
Well the musicians should be telling the fans about this, telling the fan how the Tory government are making us prisoners of our own country, the musician can get that message across to the people of this country, far better than the media. So Bands & Musicians get out there and sing your songs of what this government is trying to do to all of us. Taking our freedom away.
oh goodness me i am shocked who could have predicted this oh no
Obviously? The Tories made it clear during the pandemic what they think of music, art and culture.
They’ve made it clear, while they were celebrating Brexit fishing rights, historic theatres and music venues were dying with no support, despite them being worth far more to the UK than some fish are.
They literally turned down an offer from the EU to allow British musicians waivers to perform in Europe, they didn’t just let our music industry die, they set it on fire.
I love how it always comes back to staffing. Wealthy people who want the cheap labour back to inflate their margins.
It’s not just bands either – I’ve been in touch with a few industrial suppliers based in the EU and they literally won’t sell to the UK.
I was looking at one website and saw they had no contact / sales person for the UK. I contacted them to ask why, and “Brexit” was the response. I asked how I could buy their products and was given the e-mail equivalent of a shrug.
But I know why they do it; 15% of our sales used to be to the EU, now it’s about 1-2%…
…and of those sales, many get stopped at customs or rejected by the customer when they are asked for import duties by their local tax authority. It often costs us money to supply goods to our customers in the EU. That’s not sustainable, and only my stubborn unwillingness to admit defeat stops me from pulling the plug.
I suppose european bands never tour the USA then … Interesting
Do we now call these bands traitors, for ‘ skipping the UK?..
Its walking out..
It’s getting harder to argue with people who claim that the intention was always to undermine Brexit and eventually bring us back in to the EU. The Brexiteers running the show aren’t solving problems they could easily solve without the EU, by for instance just letting certain people in for whatever reasons we decide, which was an important part of the point of Brexit to begin with, control over our own borders??
The conclusion we’re all left to make, whichever side of this debate we’re on, that politicians screw everything up and can’t be trusted. I still think the Brexit vote had less to do with Tory rhetoric and more to do with “it breaks the system, let’s do it”.
It’s okay though working class Bazza in Grimsby thinks there’ll be less immigrants tekin his jobs and the British Empire will reform.
Or pensior Pete who bought his house for £30 back in 1960 and doesn’t want immigrants moving in down his street.
Aren’t gigs for the smallfolk? Far too crowded, the peasants will be better off without them.
You people on here really make it seem like it’s all doom and gloom but forget to recognise most top celebrities don’t care about the EU and come from the USA anyway. Most of them still came for wireless and other events.
The UK isn’t as bad off as you think lmao
I love deep progressive house and have been looking out for my favourite international DJs playing nearby. There’s nothing. I have half a dozen names I watch and none are heading this way.
Who cares? The UK has much bigger problems that circuses.
Every restriction and tariff is imposed by the home country for entry of goods and services but Dominic rabb stated the EU charged the uk public for imports which is untrue, either he was lying or employed without an interview and proper experience or qualifications
This bit seemed to be quietly added to the end of the article!
“24 EU Member States, including the biggest touring markets such as Spain, France, Germany and the Netherlands, have confirmed they offer visa and work permit free routes for UK performers and other creative professionals.
“We are continuing dialogue with those few remaining countries which do not offer visa or work permit-free routes.”
We always said Britain, when they got their BRexit, Britain would wail that they were kicked out of the EU SM/CU. And there we have it. And this is just a small example.
You’re ‘free’ now. Why even bother mentioning us? Why even bother trading with us. Go away. It’s what you told us to do.
No. 10 put out a statement:
“How could the last Labour government do this to the arts!”
Not just Bands are skipping the UK.
I am a researcher in physics from Germany and, despite a great fit with a lab in the UK, cannot become a visiting researcher there due to Visa reasons after the Brexit.
And I am not the only one: I have heard of countless cases in my environment of students, scientific staff, researchers etc etc who just cannot (or after the increased barriers don’t want to) do quality research in the UK anymore.
This is really a pity and it makes me sad – – I believe that the UK is missing out on many benefits by creating unnecessary barriers for science. Me and many other workers will just go somewhere else (US for example) if the UK doesn’t want us anymore.
So it’s not just bands…. It’s the entire public life including sectors such as arts, science and many more.
