  1. Suspected explosion at a waste management facility in Bürrig. Residents are advised to stay indoors, close windows and doors, and to keep the emergency phone lines free for genuine emergencies.

If you haven’t already done so, you should download either the Katwarn or the NINA app, which will alert you in cases like this.

    > Das teilten Polizei und Feuerwehr aus Köln / Leverkusen unserer Redaktion auf Anfrage mit. Die Explosion soll gegen 9.30 Uhr stattgefunden haben. Welches Gebäude genau explodiert ist und wie es dazu kam, ist derzeit Teil der Ermittlungen.

    Translation:

This was communicated by the police and fire department from Cologne / Leverkusen to our editorial office on request. The explosion is said to have taken place around 9:30 am. Which building exactly exploded and how it happened is currently part of the investigation.

The police ask to keep windows and doors closed.

  3. Leverkusen and Mühlheim, Cologne as well as Niehl and Chorweiler should probably close their windows for a bit. Chemical waste facility. Better be safe than sorry.

  4. Another great example how NINA and the other warning apps have failed!

Even an “Entwarnung” would have been great and usefull information.

But this seems to be too much Neuland!

  5. 1 confirmed death, 4 people who worked still are missing and the peeps living there are not leaving their homes cuz of it. It was a chemical factory.

  6. According to my family and the news living there the fire has beed extinguished.

Edit: Also according to the news.

  7. Living in Dortmund and still we received a NINA alert that we should close windows and doors wow. 60km of Leverkusen

  8. I was in Leverkusen and had the office window open at the time and the shockwave that came through it was strong enough to open my door, which was only slightly ajar.

  9. It translates to: If you grow anything in the next 50years in your nearby garden and eat it – well – game over for you…
