NCT here wont be until January 2023. Its the only way I think this can continue until the backlog is done.

Last year I did drive a couple of months while waiting for the test, but had it booked and was keeping the booking confirmation with me at all times.

You don’t have to wait for the reminder, you can book your NCT well in advance. I’ve just booked mine for December with it being up in January 23.
I had mine booked, did the run over etc, and it was cancelled the evening before. I couldn’t get another one for about 6 months and to be frank, its not good enough to be on a “cancellation list” where I have to re-arrange life / work / family to take up some appointment offered at a day’s notice.

Another stealth tax , but it’s easier to get a pass now , I’ve always failed on misaligned headlights, but this year it sailed through even though I knew there was this problem and several other faults not mention after test .
Trouble with this is, although you probably won’t get in trouble with the guards if you have a test booked, God help you if you need to claim from the insurance.
