>Barcelona receives today a new star that will change its skyline day and night: it is a tremendous piece of steel and glass dodecahedron-shaped 5.5 tons and 7.5 meters in diameter with which ends the construction of the pinnacle that, at 138 meters high, is now the highest of the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia.
>The main threat this Monday morning was the weather. The day dawned clear, but the technicians waited until the wind had completely died down. Minutes before nine o’clock in the morning the main crane has turned to proceed to anchor the star, located next to the corner of Provença and Marina streets, and begin its ascent.
>The next step and the culmination of the work on this tower will be its illumination, scheduled for the day of the Immaculate Conception. From December 8, the star and the entire Maria tower, with its 800 windows, will be illuminated every night.
>More than a hundred people have been following the whole process from the street, a historic moment in the construction of the modernist temple – which began in 1882 – which has culminated in a spontaneous applause
I didn’t notice that small piece of dirt was actual human being in there…
interesting!
however, seeing the Romanial cathedral in Bucharest akes me wonder if they will … seeing how easy it was for them to build an absolute behemoth of around 135m tall… just tell them they “can’t make the tallest pinnacle” and it will be done by next thursday.
i’m always amazed that this cathedral is still in construction. such an incredible project.
Real shame there’s a major road right in front of this thing. The pollution has done such a number on the older sections that they’re already in need of replacement before the building is even finished.
