Pregnant woman shocked after GP ‘gave her anti-abortion leaflet’ | Abortion

  1. It’s almost like we’re so close to America that every shit thing they do we have to follow. He shouldn’t be handing out anti abortion leaflets on the job he should be sacked.

  2. If we ignore the huge issue of this GP pushing his personal veiws on this woman and trying to guilt trip her, he gave her a leaflet containing false medical information.

He should be dismissed for knowingly handing out medical falsehoods, or at the *very* least suspended and made to take a hell of a lot of training to stop this happening again.

  3. It’s definitely an opinionated approach. But also part of the whole crisis. To my knowledge, UK doctors can decline doing abortion based on personal beliefs but they have to suggest another one. I’m a doctor and it always felt weird. My personal beliefs or preferences should never affect my practice. If I treat racists or rapists, can I decline care? No. Despite personal ideas.
A doctor should give options, explain and promote free choice.

  4. SHOCKER…it was a male GP.

I once complained to a male GP at the practise I was registered at about hormonal issues.

He laughed literally in my face and told me it was ALL just age related. Ignore it. You’re 23 now…it’s just age. Kept talking over me, didn’t want to consider it might be hormones, it’s “age”.

Spoiler: It was a hormonal issue.

  5. And this is why the Tories actively blocking Abortion being added to their “Bill of Rights” or removing it from the international agreements they set up or having staunch anti abortionsists in high positions is concerning.

It’s all the ground work for these behaviours to start spreading just like the other culture wars they have started or perpetuated in an attempt to wind back the rights on everyone but cis white traditional christian families.

Abortion is not a right that is safe in this country. And any attempts no matter how small to roll it back need to be fought heavily.
It’s still a criminal offense and only allowed in law by the very limited circumstance of which only by convention is it interpreted fairly loosely.

  6. Women shouldn’t go to their GPs about abortion. They can self-refer to a local clinic directly where they won’t have to put up with this shit.

  7. There is too much of this bullshit in the NHS particularly around maternity services. My wife had an abortion (5 weeks) and the ‘counselling’ process flushed out all sorts of born again wierdos using their professional position as a platform for an evangellical crusade.

  8. I had a GP refuse me the morning after pill once in its early days because it was against their religion. I had to wait an hour in the surgery when I was supposed to be at work.

  9. Doctors pushing their moral agenda is unfortunately not new. When I was 18 I found out I was pregnant at 12 weeks and the doctor I was able to see lied and told me it was too late to get a termination. The Jesus figurine on the wall should have been a hint but I was naive and trusted him because he was a doctor in spite of the fact the whole reason I got pregnant is because a previous doctor lied to me months earlier and told me I was infertile after a nasty STI landed me in hospital. It took me years to realise he was saying it just to be nasty and had no idea how relieved I was because I’ve never wanted kids. And before anyone asks how I didn’t know for 12 weeks, I was a homeless heroin addict, I weighed 6 stone nothing and hadn’t had a period in more than a year. The thought I had a tumour or something. The whole episode left me with severe PTSD, lifelong pain and a huge amount of mistrust in medical professionals.

  10. GP’s are effectively private service providers within the NHS. They can refer/contract with any service, even if that means they pass out religious propaganda in doing so.

I would report then to NHS England, details can be found on the [NHS.uk](https://NHS.uk) website.

  11. We must fight for our liberty and our right to healthcare now. And not wait until the propaganda has been left to stew for decades

  12. Why is this becoming a thing over here? America has always had the abortion thing going on in their politics, it’s so bitter end emotive and divisive. Why do we need to bring all that stuff into our politics?

  13. I remember my sister telling me about how she went for an abortion and the nurse and doctor tried convincing her not to do it. She was 19 and not in a good place to have a child.

They abused their positions to push their own shitty views.

  14. I know someone that had an abortion and she had to have a mental health review and was repeatedly asked “are you *suuuurreee* you want this?” before they’d finally agree to the procedure.

Why is the decision to have an abortion treated this way? I bet when someone is pregnant the health workers don’t ask the pregnant person if they’re *sure* they want to have a baby.

  15. Hey what’s that? I called it on American abortion policies being adopted by the tories? Who would’ve fucking knew it eh? Oh yeah, anyone with common sense.

Thankfully the Scottish and Welsh governments aren’t trying to ban abortions so I mean move to one of these countries and go get one if you need one

  16. Reminds me of the mental health counsellor on the NHS that told my friend to find Jesus. Keep your religious shit out of your professional medical duty you blithering idiot.

  17. I remember a pharmacist at my local pharmacy refused to sell my girlfriend the morning after pill, claimed that she needed to consult with her doctor. She rang bpas who is local and they even said it was a load of bs but still sent down a script for it to another pharmacy near them. Even the pharmacist was confused when we collected it.

These religious fruit cakes need to fuck off and stop pushing their bullshit beliefs on us.

  18. That’s an ethics breach and arguably harm to a patient. Strike off the doctor. That’ll teach them to keep their personal bias out of medicine. This has been a point of pride for us. Medicine first, patient first. The doctor is a treatment gatekeeper, not a life coach. We just can’t let that toxic american crap seep any further here.

  19. >Dr Jonathan Lord, NHS gynaecologist and medical director at MSI, said the information contained in leaflets he had seen was “false, biased, designed to frighten women and cause guilt”

This is unacceptable. These silly anti-abortionists should know you’re only allowed to frighten people and cause guilt when covid is being discussed.
