Crispin Odey urges Currys to ‘make washing machines more expensive’

  1. Speaking obviously for their wallets here and not the people struggling who’d have to shell out even more money if their washing machine and other kitchen appliances were to break. Money money money with these lot.

  2. “Crispin Odey, whose eponymous hedge funds own large stakes in both retailers, wants Currys to ditch its “price lock” commitment and make goods more expensive.”

And there was me thinking he might have a vested interest in making them more expensive.

  3. Priorities right there mate.

If Liz Truss won’t kick these fools out, I don’t think any political party is going to reach anywhere near a majority come the next general election.

    What a laughing stock.

  4. Curry’s should make their customer service better and offer more to help customers repair their goods if that is the case. If we are expected to pay more then we should be getting something more for our money in the long run.

  5. Hedge fund manager wants company in portfolio to make more money really isn’t newsworthy, is it?

  6. Ah the odious Brexit-loving cunt once again trying to make peoples lives worse so he can make more profit for himself.

  7. The headlines deliberately incendiary, but comments here are completely missing the underlying reality. A retailer (/any business) isn’t viable without a profit margin. Retailers buy things from suppliers and then dial up the price: their only ‘value add’ is easing availability. If you’re against Currys making things more expensive to “preserve profit margin” (which will obviously have shrunk massively in the current climate) then are you pro everyone buying their washing machines on back order from the factory in China? Are you pro buying potatoes direct from the farmer instead of Tesco? Because that’s the alternative if these businesses having a profit margin is unacceptable.

  8. I would pay 50% more for one that lasts twice as long and is easier to repair.

The problem is knowing which one lasts longer and is easier to repair. Also doubt this guy wants that.

  9. Can I urge the electorate to make Tony donors more expensive?

That said, I’m not sure we can afford them. He was behind the Brexit shit-show, and bet against Sterling.

I think there was a cohort of ministers’ friends queuing up to rip the taxpayer off over ‘preferential contracts’ for PPE.

    Plus ca change.

  10. At 75 and a heart problem & blood clots! since CV19!
I sadly bought a Currys CARE plan with my new Beko £400+ £150+ care plan dishwasher! ONE wash was it’s limit! Seems Currys CARE was wrongly named it’s actually now CARELESS we are now on week 7 & no hope of any sort till I sue!
The unskilled install duo didn’t watch the 4 (FOUR) minute video Beko has on line! & threw out the fitting kit and most of the supplied bits! & Bodged it! The beko supplied engineer refused to sort it as it’s so badly fecked. If Tory backer odey has cash in it it’s his fault eh?

  11. Hedge fund peeps are gonna hedge fund..

“I must add another zero to my already ludicrous wealth”
