I’m not religious at all but surely the whole point of ‘faith’ is that it’s kinda just a feeling. I say each to their own and believe whatever the heck you like. Just don’t force it down other people’s throats.
I don’t think you really have to believe in god to be an Anglican. It’s mainly about the tea and singing etc.
Having read some of Dawkins’ books, I had to check the article to see which one was being accused of taking feelings over facts. RD is not great at avoiding factoring in his own opinions when inferring conclusions. I read The God Delusion hoping to cement my agnosticism as atheism but there’s no hard evidence in there. Likewise I tried doing the Alpha Course hoping it might inspire me towards faith but I just couldn’t feel the same faith as the others there.
Edit: I’ve just looked up the definition of agnosticism and I’m using in inappropriately – if anyone can give me a better word, I’m trying to express indecision on the existence of the soul, it’s possible existence beyond life and death and not necessarily that standard “beard in the sky” god. I’m also open to the possibility that I might have misremembered Dawkins inferring the non existence of all of that in TGD.
I’d rather go for dinner with Richard Coles, Dawkins doesn’t seem like much fun.
Dawkins is a pompous ass. His views on trans people are as delusional and anti-scientific as any of the religious mumbo-jumbo he sneers at.
I’m atheist but I’d love to sit down for a cuppa with Rev RC. He comes across as such a warm, compassionate and interesting person.
As a staunch atheist I believe that Coles is a decent bloke and Dawkins is a massive arse.
This was great to read. Above all, the respect they have for each other and recognising the space the other holds.
Love Dawkins 😀
