Trash may be a slight over exaggeration but they were better in both matches and never really looked like losing at any point tonight. LOI teams are actually getting quite decent in Europe but seem to really find it hard to score at crucial times.
Sligo were unlucky last year not to progress. Ultimately most LOI teams just can’t get the ball in the net in the one or two good chances they get in a European match. Against Bala they missed a raw muscle fox like Johnny Kenny but here the gaps Motherwell left at the back meant you always felt there was a good chance of a score. Fab free kick mind..Sky Sports News Commentator was as effusive as those in the stands. Blamey was class of the two legs but honestly hard to single out any one player.
As a Dad of soccer mad kids honestly the.best part of the night was seeing so many players families out to hug and cheer them after the end. Lot or proud parents….lot of folks too gave Max Mara a lot of love at the end too. He is a long way from home at a young age but Sligo is going to make him a New Zealand international like his team mate Nando. No question…I’m still tearing up…
Nearest LOI team to me is Waterford but I love seeing Irish teams do well in European competitions, gwan Sligo!
