Is that a drag queen in the library? Oh no it’s not

  1. Drag queens should be called pantomime dames to quell protests against them speaking in front of children, librarians have been told.

In a webinar entitled Managing Controversial Events more than 100 librarians shared “war game” strategies over how best to handle parents upset at their local library hosting Drag Queen Story Hour UK, which is touring Britain this summer.

Drag artists at the events perform interactive stories for children aged 3 to 11 and promise to show them that “being different is not a bad thing”.

The webinar advised organisers on how to cope with being “bombarded by letters of complaint”. One speaker suggested tricking protesters. “We’ve always said ‘pantomime dame’ because we don’t want protesters outside,” Ian Anstice, a librarian from Cheshire West and Chester, told the seminar.

On Thursday demonstrators outside a library in Bristol tried to perform a citizen’s arrest on Sab Samuel, 27, a drag performer with the stage name Aida H Dee. Samuel said: “I genuinely believe these people are victims of a misinformation campaign . . . I pity them.”

Bristol city council said the drag show events offered lessons on “how we can create a more inclusive society”.

The webinar, details of which were leaked to The Sunday Telegraph, was organised by Libraries Connected. A spokesman said it “included contributions from a range of library professionals . . . speaking in a personal capacity.”

  2. I really don’t understand what’s to get angry about. It’s a bloke dressed like a women could be much worse my primary school used to bring in bloody priests.

  3. If you waste time out of your day getting angry and taking time off work to go vocally protest, scream and shout obscenities in front of a bunch of children, all because someone is doing a bit of gender clowning… Are you not the real clown? Quite pathetic people really tbh, I feel sorry that their lives are so sad this is all they have left to spend it doing.

  4. Just to inform….. These events are normally ticketed…. Meaning you need to buy a ticket to actually attend.

What these right wing protesters actually want… Is your personal freedom of choice to be removed. And they also claim the left are pro cancel culture 😂
