Everyone, from politicians to doctors, teachers, train drivers, rappers and influencers, *everyone* thinks and speaks in the language of capitalism. As the late Mark Fisher said, it is easier to imagine the end of the world than it is to imagine the end of capitalism. Capitalism is absolutely fucking rampant. Look at Amazon, whose global dominance, whose monstrous scale and efficiency have completely transformed our cities and our way of life. Look at the way giant oil and gas companies can purchase, exploit, and ultimately ravage vast swathes of entire nations with barely a nod to the needs and wants of the local population. Look at the way the interests of the very wealthiest, most devotedly capitalist people on the planet are so thoroughly and deeply represented at the highest levels of virtually every government on earth. Look at how the largest economic crisis in history changed precisely *nothing* about the turbo-charged, de-regulation-loving form of capitalism that caused it. Look at how even an existential planetary crisis, the literal end-of-the-world, is not able to exert enough power to overcome the forces of capitalism which are hastening its arrival. This system. This all-powerful, world-conquering system, is apparently threatened by a few fucking pronouns on name badges and the presence of black people in period dramas. It’s hard to comprehend how thick you’d have to be to actually believe this.
