Pasteis de Nata and Bola de Belem

  1. First of all, it’s not Bola de Belém, but Bola de **Berlim**.

I liked to see your second try on the Natas, was way more close to the original than these ones and the firsts. The pastry, shape and that little border matters a lot.

As for the Bolas… well… sorry but they look very bad, maybe they are tasty, but you need to improve it a bit (a lot xD) You can cover them with sugar and cinnamon too 😉

Don’t take my critic in a bad way, or the others, keep trying till you make these guys jealous 😛

    Try to translate this recipe:

They should turnout like these,[the best in the world some say](https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2017/jul/02/portugal-custard-doughnuts-bolas-de-berlim-pastelaria-confeitaria-manuel-natario):

Light pastry, creamy egg filling awith the mix of sugar and cinnamon covering them.

    Good luck

  2. I think u thought of pastel de Belém, the typical pastel de nata that we have in Belém area in Lisbon.

  3. While they don’t exactly look their best, they seem yummy enough for me. If these were in front of me, you bet I would try them! I value flavour over looks, anyway. Extra points for displaying them with fruit, I love the mix.

I never ventured on baking pastry, so well done you! 🙂

  4. Nossa, já é uma ofensa quando dizem pastel de belem, agora bola de belem, eu desisto, tambem devem comer o recheio da nata a colher e deixam a massa.

  5. Ainda dizem que os Portugueses são bons hospitaleiros…

Don’t mind the comments, this subreddit loves to get offended at any rendition of portuguese cuisine that slightly deviates from what they’re used to, even though they never made any themselves and probably never will.

Thanks for sharing! If you care about making the natas look more traditional, see if you can find some molds with the typical shape (the top should be significantly wider than the bottom). No idea if it will affect the taste/texture at all, but I think it will help with the looks. I think apart from the shape it’s pretty much on point!

The Bolas de Berlim look a bit overdone perhaps, don’t forget to coat them with sugar! (Unless that was on purpose of course!)

Good job though, I’m sure they were delicious!
