I’m not sure attempting to chew the poor rabbit’s face off like a Florida Man on bath salts while it sits there too terrified to move is really “friendship”…
I feel lied to and I should’ve known it since newspapers twist the truth so much. I was sold on multiple puffin-rabbit friendships. What I got was one puffin bothering a rabbit in two pictures. It’s probably not even a rabbit. Most likely a native hare. Don’t be going around promising cross species friendships and not delivering.
I’ve seen magpies pulling at foxes’ tails; hooded crows taking swings at cats. I don’t think this little bit here between the puffins and hares/rabbits is anything different than this (a bit of over-assumption by the writer).
But it’s still a really pretty thing. It’s sad that I feel honoured to observe animals interacting in these mild ways but I really do feel happy to see it.
