  1. This is what the Iveagh Markets looked like BEFORE Dublin City Council gave it to a ‘developer’ 20 years ago – it was perfect – and this how it looked after 17 years developer’s tender care😢😢😢

  2. Fine Gael will still think privatization is the only solution to anything, becuase they are stripping the government of assets to award themselves.

Before they are voted out they are going to make homeownership and water legally a luxury and they are current looking at making the concept of striking illegal to render unions powerless as is being done currently by their masters in the UK.

  3. What they glossed over is nimbys blocking the redevelopment plan for well over a decade follow on a legal case of the original owner trying to get the property back further blocking the development.

    edit: gammers.

  4. I really think that this should be modeled on the Time Out Markets. A local one as a hub for local and regional food and drink, with a few of those overpriced artisan trinket stalls, would be very popular. You’d be enriching the area and you’d get a lot of tourists.

The one in Lisbon is fantastic.

  5. Dublin is getting all precious about itself recently. “Old Dublin is disappearing” hysterical crap. Its stalled progress. The local NIMBYS prevented redevelopment. That’s the story here, not an “evil developer”. You people are so easily drafted into a lynch mob mentality. Go back to Facebook FFS.

  6. They should be trying to build an artisanal market in Moore St. That’s the perfect location for it. Something like a modern purpose built South Melbourne or Victoria Market with bakeries, delicatessens, Irish food products, restaurants.

  7. In order for the demolition of a building “to provide benefit to the public” it sort of has to pass a point of no return first and that’s how Dublin works.

Plenty of old school cool buildings around the place slowly being left to rot before they aren’t missed anymore.

  8. At this point I don’t care if it was the developer or the council or a bunch of NIMBYS that can’t stand change. These properties need to be seized and developed immediately regardless of objections. I’m so fucking tired of the vocal minority of homeowners fucking this country up for the rest of us.

  9. It’d be class to have something like the Mercado San Miguel in Dublin, something that could be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike, and the Iveagh Markets would be perfect for it

  10. I know this sounds conspiratorial but the developer probably wants it to get so bad they can claim it’s unrepairable . They will then demolish it and build a hotel .

  11. Any news on what Eddie Guinness is doing? I remember he was trying to take it back from this (I hate saying developer, he’s a literal waster), but that was probably a year and a half ago now.

  12. I remember buying posters in there in the late 90s. Or maybe that was Mother Redcaps. Either way they have been both been sitting empty for over 20 years and it is a fucking joke.

The Iveagh Markets need to be taken back by the council and work started on them immediately.

  13. Would make a fantastic late night music venue/ Nightclub with the right development & Soundproofing etc
