‘Labour must go from party of protest into power – then hand power to working people’ | Keir Starmer

  1. >I completely understand why people are going on strike to secure better pay and better conditions. I support their right to do so.

    >When I was a lawyer, I represented striking miners for free. Not just sentiment and a photo opp. I backed up my words with action.

    Take that, Sam Tarry!

  2. You’ll have to forgive my cynicism Starmy boy, but transforming Labour back into an oligarchy of elitist Blairite staffers and bureaucrats doesn’t look like “handing power to working people” to me. It looks like re-domesticating the Labour Party into the backup establishmentarian party.

Nor does taking “ignore the working class, they have nowhere else to go” Mandelson as your chief advisor. Not only is that a contemptible take on the working class for anyone in Labour to hold, it’s stupid and complacent.

  3. Does this mean “We’ll be centrist to get into power, but then we’ll adopt actual left-wing policies, as our constitution sets out”? Because, if so, I’m on-board with it, but it’s putting a lot of trust in Starmer to actually do that.
