I would suggest following a few of the local fb pages for the bigger towns, like Portlaoise, Portarlington and Mountmellick where there’s sometimes postings about rentals that don’t go up on daft.
But yeah, there’s been very few new apartments built in any of the Laois towns in the last few years, especially compared to the population growth in the towns…. there’s a chronic shortage of rentals in the county for at least three years now.
From this to hospital waiting lists and A and E never ending queue’s to over crowded schools to terrible civil service (red tape galore, incompetence, over unionised), and cost of living crisis the people running this country are a joke.
I predict marches and civil disobedience in Autumn/Winter when people’s tolerance of BS will reached and breached!
People on here probably won’t want to hear this but this is down to policies that are pushing landlords out of the market
Edit: Airbnb also plays a part here. There are 57 properties available in laois in September when filtered for “entire property”

The policians just need to hold out long enough for interest rates to skyrocket over the next year. Then no one will be able to buy a house because no one will be able to get a mortgage. They can label it as “the market cooling”. You and your wife can watch it on the news from your parent’s spare room.
