  1. Booked tickets for Saturday with the kids but disappointed to learn that only the first floor is open.

Still looking forward to our visit.

  2. Low key the best cheap date in Dublin.

Excellent spot for a first date too imo. Lots of inspiration for conversation as you’re walking around and central in Dublin so it’s convenient for most daters in the city. Also, it’s free so you can spring for a bit of grub or a drink after.

Took herself there on our second date over a decade ago. We’ve three kids now, so like, endorsement.

  3. We booked for a couple of weeks from now. Apparently the website was very slow so maybe everyone was jumping on!

Shame about only 1 floor open. I have fond memories of the stuff on the upper floor so hopefully it’ll be brought down.

The whale won’t be up again for a long time either.

You’re only given 45 minutes for your slot but sure if it’s only 1 floor that’s plenty. I hope it’ll be a good outing regardless. The kids are so excited.

  4. Yeow! Natural History is has always been my favorite kind of museum.

We’re all intellectuals and all, but a giant fuck off stuffed narwhal or whatever every few exhibits is just what you need to stay engaged.

  5. Was the museum not closed for years only a decade ago ? After the stairs collapse ?

And now only a partial reopen and still not including the expansion works that are due to.be done which will shut.it down again.

    Seems very stop and start.

  6. I randomly strolled into this yesterday not knowing it’s been closed for 2 years! What a delight. It is very interesting indeed.

  7. The stairs collapsing only closed the place for a relatively short while.

I believe the upper floors were closed off due to fire safety / evacuation rules. So they are unlikely to reopen until additional fire exits are built, which is likely a key challenge with the building being listed and wanting to preserve it in as close to the original form as possible.
