Good too see films using the Irish language. Hopefully it can comeback and become widely used here.
Best film to come out of Ireland ever
>We have always believed in the idea that an Irish-language film could stand shoulder to shoulder with the best of world cinema, and we feel so proud to be representing our country and our language in this way.”
Hopefully, they can make it all the way through to win the award. Even if they get chosen as a nominee that would be the most exposure that an Irish language film has received at the Oscars!
So proud of this.
Let’s not care about the Oscars and instead care about EU film awards 😀
Is it showing in any cinemas?
Wonderful film. Some international recognition would be great.
Good movie. However it’s that strange generic Irish past where any era looks like the 50s. Or even 20s. It’s actually the 80s.
The final scene is one of the most emotional I’ve seen.
I love this. A language needs to have cultural staying power. It’s not enough to force your children learn in schools. Your language should be a key to unlocking intellectual and emotional treasures.
People in the 21st century learn English to enjoy Hollywood movies & shows, popular music, contemporary literature, and engagement with the vast English speaking world with all of its memes and shenanigans online and IRL.
People learn Japanese because of weebshit. People learn Korean for K-pop and K-drama. People learn Arabic to read the Quran or watch Egyptian cinema.
Hell, the Persian language was saved from extinction by Ferdowsi pumping out rich poetry and tales of ancient Persia.
