Hosepipe ban imposed on Hampshire and Isle of Wight after heatwave

  1. How does this type of thing affect motorhomes and caravans who use hosepipes, I know the isle of wight and Hampshire have lots of campsites

  2. Hosepipe bans were common when I was a kid and 40° last week made me remember them. I asked my friends if they’d follow a hosepipe ban and every one of us said we wouldn’t. I wonder if they’d actually have an affect?

  3. The map on that article has the red highlighted bit not including areas covered by Portsmouth water among others. Does that mean they are exempt. I did read it says all of hants and IOW but what’s with the shit graphic?

  4. Bear in mind the headline is misleading – this is due to prolonged drought in some areas this year, not the recent heatwave, though of course the two are directly connected.

Almost like climate change is more serious than two hot days….

  5. They’ll just have even more “emergency extraction” from rivers – as they always do. The water companies are a joke – in the past they have benn quite open that it is cheaper for them to pay fines than fix leaks/ensure water supplies.

Water suppy is almost a microcosm of Climate change in that we have known for years that there are real problems in the South, but nothing ever seems to be done to either bring more water in from wetter parts of the UK, or limit the amount of new building without taking water supplies into account.

  6. The way people talk about fixing leaks to water pipes feels a bit like politicians promising to cut taxes by eliminating waste.

  7. Water companies charging people for a service then threatening to fine them £1000 for using said service.

    What a joke.

  8. I’ll stop when they stop dumping sewage on the beach and make the sewage plant not be able to be smelled from 5 miles away because of the waste

Water rules are ridiculous from these people, particularly when the water companies are still in massive profit and hiking costs. If they lower costs or actually do anything helpful then that’s fair enough, but with the billions of pounds of water being wasted and the cost through the roof…

  9. Can my partner still use the hose to clean me off after I have been swimming or kayaking in the solent?

Genuine question. I live in Gosport and she loves using the garden hose to rinse me off and tbh it is good to rinse some of the salt off.

  10. So going by the list of what I can’t do, I can’t clean my car but I can clean my commercial van which is twice the size? Good to know. Idiots.

Not that I plan on cleaning the car at all. Too hot for that.
