IMF: “Fuck the poor! Fuck the poor! Fuck the poor!”
To be fair, they’re also that reckless at forcing domestic industries into the ground. It’s peak market moralism worshiping the greatness of the Invisible Hand.
And they’re how we got to this omnishambollic state of affairs.
And Nero fiddled while Rome burned
But we already do that in Denmark.
Not only are we paying for the construction and maintenance of the infrastructure. The consumers are also paying for the infrastructure of the future and the “green transition”.
This high cost is offset by the government gift of paying the full cost of fossil fuel plus taxes.
Are we in that bad of a shape that we need IMF input now? what is next? An IMF bailout?
Beating will continue until the moral improves! /s
The IMF is right. Rather then pretending all is fine by pumping money into energy companies by subsidizing consumption we should be subsidizing the poor and letting people figure out what they can and can’t cut. All the while providing cheap loans for companies so they don’t go under during the turbulence.
The alternative is to subsidize the fuel and then we still end up paying the costs. But then in the form of taxes or even higher debt levels…And taxing only the rich or the companies will be “ recouped“ in an other way ending with higher consumer prizes, so there is no way we end up paying the cost as a society in the end.
Or a EU subsidizing way..well we know which countries will be paying the EU bill then…
Same reason I rather not see some countries going into even more debt..
Only solution is to limit the use. What better motivation then a large gas bill to motivate people to set the heating at a nice 18 degrees with some extra clothes on. Or higher if you want too but I am not willing to subsidize it. Directly or indirectly.
I don’t know what alternative there is, although it being a US media source they may think it justifiable to invade somewhere for energy needs. Yes I know the us is a major oil producer but the phrasing of headline makes it sounds like Europeans enduring is an oddity.
And its not like gas is cheap in the us anymore.
well yeah, you want people to pay the true cost so they stop wasting it.
