It is important to note that the UK does have hate speech laws, under which this would fall. While the line about “causing anxiety” was a stupid thing to say and was just ammunition to people against this, there are laws about this.
I find it hard to be sympathetic to someone who posts pride flag swastikas.
I’m no social media expert but I’d probably steer well clear of posting anything to do with a swastika just to be on the safe side like, joke or not.
He seems to have also failed to comply with a court order according to other reporting.
>Police in the UK have criticised themselves after a Dubliner was arrested for “causing anxiety” by retweeting a meme of a swastika made out of Pride flags.
He didn’t even make the tweet originally he just retweeted it.
>The meme was originally posted by Laurence Fox, a 44-year-old actor turned campaigner, on social media.
So it was originally posted by Lawrence Fox, but somehow Brady retweeting the post caused the anxiety.
>Mr Brady had contacted them and they were present at his home when officers were there.
The cops didn’t even have to look far to find the originator of the post, he was right in front of them.
Snowflake culture.

One has to be able to discuss this kind of stuff. If someone is ‘offended’ then that’s unfortunate, at worst. The Mirror, in the article, published the offending image but we’re not damning them for it, and rightly so. FFS, I’m offended *massively* by the way the way our government and also the British government have been behaving, *and* I know of plenty of folk suffering huge anxiety because of those governments’ behaviours. Nobody’s being arrested for that, as far as I know…
Pathetic state of affairs.
Hate speech laws are an embarrassment & stuff like that proves it time & time again. Wait until you see the pathetic excuse for legislation they’re trying to get passed here, it’s truly embarrassing for Fine Gael.
RTE’s tweet about spiders caused me anxiety.
Ban them. Ban them now twitter.
Minority report
“Mr Brady, i am arresting you on suspicion of causing anxiety to a handful of overly sensitive Twitter users. You do not have to say anything but anything you do say will be used in court as evidence…”
You laugh, but the same shit is going to happen here because people think being offended is some kind of crime that should be prevented.
A load of people seem to see the image very one dimensionally. My interpretation was that he was inferring that a certain element of the gay community is like a cult and you cant criticise them. Their ‘propaganda’ is ‘everywhere’. Hence that’s why the swastika was made *from* the gay flag.
To simply view it as him posting a swastika to piss of the gays is kinda simplistic. It was quite a nuanced, layered image.
And In order to disprove this blatantly untrue inference the guys post made, the state sent some of their jack booted thugs around to his house to arrest him for wrong think. The irony.
Anyway, even if we take the worst case interpretation, and he’s a massive homophobe- I couldn’t care less. Freedom of speech is more important than your feelings. Satire shouldn’t be a crime.
Also I find it ironic that the same people that zealously support these laws are also the same Fruit cakes that shit the bed over ‘fascist’ tories and ‘fascist’ trump. Yet they hand these ‘fascists’ power via these anti democratic hate speech laws. Odd.
You folk may come to regret these laws. Just cause your ilk are in power now, and your opinions are the prevailing zeitgeist, doesn’t mean it will stay that way. Just look at JK Rowling. She’s an ostracised TERF nazi now. Yet She was a beloved feminist hero just a few years ago.
Whoever called the police after seeing that meme needs to drink a massive pint of chill the fuck out
Do British police not cause black people anxiety everyday? British soldiers and Union flags cause me anxiety due to their colonial roots.
They need to repeal these hate speech laws asap.
Ha ha ha ha I’m due to be arrested soon for sharing memes o my 😆 🙃🤪🙄
Is this to do with the 4 pride flags together make super pride flags meme? He got arrested for that?
Nothing happens when you’re offended, you’re just offended. That’s it!
There’s a lot of fascists and bigots in Ireland that want the exact same here.
“When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you’re only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”
Sweet Jesus.
Is this the “slippery slope” they talk about? Does asking that question make me alt right?
