Ukraine Is Part of the West: NATO and the EU Should Treat It That Way

  1. It seems time and time again, the West hasn’t learned from the past. Ukraine seems to be sleepwalking into something they don’t fully understand. Russia will view Western military presence, even without Ukraine officially joining NATO as a defacto member. The slow build up of our forces and strategic positioning is sending a clear signal.

What the Ukranian leadership needs to try and understand is that they are caught up in a pull and tug between the West/NATO and Russia. They a a victim of a geostrategic dance that has been going on since the Soviet Union and one that has gotten colder since the collapse of the union.

A miscalculation will cost Ukraine half of it’s country. It’s as if they have built some collective amnesia that they’ve lost Crimea, land the size of Belgium and a good chunk of the Donbas region. They will lose far more if they keep sleepwalking.

  2. In 2019 160 BILLION dollars has moved from Russia to West. In just one year. And EVERY year. The way Russian economy is setup benefits West big time. Russia sells oil and gas, and parks revenues in Western banks/markets. What’s not to like?

So, what can Ukraine offer to West to offset 160 BILLION USD financial injection every year?

  3. Good read, and I absolutely agree.

Ukraine is not Russia and we should do everything in our power to keep it that way.

We have to stop fucking around with NS2 and sanctioning some oligarchs. Cut Russia from SWIFT and make then return stolen territories back in Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova.

  4. Someone should inform this guy that the west doesn’t really care if you’re ideologically west, east, north or south as long as your bank account has enough digits.

And in case you have doubts check out the frontrunner of democracy and western values Saudi Arabia (/s) and how we treat them.

  5. >DMYTRO KULEBA is Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine…

    Expert on West-ness right here

Seriously, the Ukraine is like that Level 5 character in MMO who walks into Level 75 dungeon without bothering to even think it through

  6. Maybe they have to try to do something? idk maybe some reforms? The EU has clear criteria for joining. They are literally written on the EU Commission’s website, but Ukrainian politicians failed to follow those criteria’s for 8 years. They failed to make progress in reforming their country. You can’t just beg to be treated like you are a part of the West, if you don’t do your homework. Other countries made huge reforms and it still took decades to join, while Ukrainians want to get the membership with begging and telling “we are a part of the West”

  7. Just make an agreement with Putin that the territories where a lot of ethnic Russians live can join Russia but say that he cannot get more.

That seems sensible to me, lets be real, nobody goes to war over Ukraine anyway and we could prevent the war like this.

  8. We don’t have to pretend they’re western to want them to join NATO guys. Stop with the mental gymnastics.

  9. A dislike of Putin and the current Russian government does not change geography. The Ukraine is at the heart of Eastern Europe. Who writes this? Or more important who reads this crap? Probably sponsored by American arms companies.

  10. Western countries don’t have forced assimilation policies and don’t carry out acts of violence and discrimination against their ethnic minorities.
