I don’t really like the way the last line of the article sits with me.

Does this not imply that because the accused was rich enough to pay for the goods, then therefore he shouldn’t be punished for stealing them? Like, I definitely see the merit in the other mitigating factors (lack of sleep, etc) but this is blatantly admitting to favouring the upper class in our justice system.
How many thousands of people in Ireland have convictions for a few euro worth of cannabis? This thief is caught twice and avoids a conviction. Complete reform needed.
This just highlights even more so the law only applies to the leapers who are not rich. There is literally no deterrent in this country.
