No extra bank holiday even if England women win Euros, says government

  1. It is probably just because the mens tournaments yields a large economic boost normally – drinks, pub expenditure, food, TV’s etc. I haven’t seen anywhere near the same attention for the womens tournament.

Plus they don’t want to be giving out bank holidays for every sports tournament.

  2. Was anyone expecting to get one? I doubt they’d set a precedent for this given there are international sports competitions going on all the time, and if we get a bank holiday if we win one there would be a claim to get a bank holiday when we win any at all.

  3. Sets a precedent though now for football, if the England Mens team were to win the Euros or WC I wouldn’t expect a bank holiday now either.

  4. I can’t imagine how much pressure one must be under representing one’s country in a final of a major tournament. I imagine it would be a lot worse if millions of people were denied a holiday if you didn’t win. Probably not the best idea to put them in that position.

  5. We’re saving up for that “bank holiday” we’re all gonna take off if Liz Truss becomes prime minister

  6. WTF?? Next thing you’ll tell me we won’t get a bank holiday when Asher-Smith wins European gold!

  7. Here me out. We should get a bank holiday/national holiday for the Act of Union day. It’s arguably the most historic event in our country’s history yet few know of it.

  8. Why would there be? I wouldn’t expect a bank holiday for any sports event.

Maybe at a push, the opening ceremony day if we hosted the Olympics again, but even then that’s a stretch.

  9. The government can’t even get the populism right now. Bank holidays are an easy way of distracting as everybody likes them and even the moaners enjoy their day off work. We had two for the jubilee, so why not this too…

  10. Look people it’s not that people *expect* to get more holiday, it’s that *they would like* more holiday.

England doesn’t even get a celebrated Patron Saints day like the rest of the union, let alone a bank holiday for said Patron Saint like the rest.

I mean it feels weird it’s called a bank holiday anyway, like we’re being permitted to have some non profit making time by the banking overlords. Although how much they’ve complained on the news about every single holiday for years now I really wouldn’t be surprised if that’s how it works

  11. So what?

Don’t get me wrong I’ll be immensely proud of them if they do but expecting a holiday is a bit silly.

  12. So, there’s money for a bank holiday for a person just surviving to old age but not for hard work?

This government surprise me every single day.

  13. . I feel abit sorry for Netball, always had a big following but just isn’t talked about in the same way

  14. No surprise there. We’re one of the nations with the lowest number of public holidays, why would our oligarchs want to change that and potentially lose out on 1 day of wageslave exploitation.

That being said, I work in events and hospitality, so all I get for bank holidays is more jobs, longer hours, and more drunks to deal with.

  15. Good, there doesn’t need to be an extra bank holiday for every mildly successful event.

Bank holidays just inconvenience the majority who don’t work in a fucking office.

  16. Why would we get a extra days holiday for a second rate football team winning a low skilled competition

  17. This is the government is planning that when the Queen dies her funeral will be held on a weekend. So that we don’t get a bank holiday for it…

  18. The only reason people are even watching this is because there’s no football going on.

If there was premier league games, the total viewer count would be 20k
