Is there a way for this coffee to actually taste good? I’ve tried almond, soy, less sugar, more sugar – still tastes like shit. Nescafé gold also deserves a mention

  1. Take 1 teaspoonful of Maxwell house, 1 teaspoonful of Gold Blend, 1 teaspoonful sugar, dash of milk, boiling water

Add gold blend, sugar and milk to mug, stir briefly, add hot water stir well. Discard Maxwell house

  2. Nope, unfortunately only short answer is stop drinking that muck and (if you genuinely want to get into coffee) get yourself an Aeropress & decent beans from the likes of 3FE or Cloudpickers, it won’t break the bank (off the top of my head I think they’re only around €30 – €35 quid) and will give you some absolutely amazing coffee. Equipment wise, it’s probably the best bang for your buck with regards to investment and your equipment ‘growing’ with you as your brew skills increase.

A French press is also a great bit of kit at a very attainable price point.

Be careful though! Coffee as a hobby is fucking addicting (literally). I went down the rabbit hole at the start of the pandemic and now own a espresso machine, x2 high end burr grinders, a Moka pot, v60 pour over, French press & Aeropress.

EDIT: If you’ve any questions around the subject matter please by all means PM me! I’m by no means an expert! But, I’d like to think I’ve learned quite a bit over the last couple of years.

  3. Make a concentrated shot. Drink something fatty, like milk, to coat your tongue first, then down the shot, then chase it with something sour/acidic to strip out anything that might linger as an aftertaste.

  4. I think the only way that would taste good is if you licked a badgers arse immediately before for comparison. And even at that it’d be close.

As others have said – aeropress. And you can even get a fancy mini travel one now too.

  5. I’m going to say I do like a nice instant. An eropress etc is lovely but there is something I like about a good simple instant.

Anyway my one big tip is to get a small container or jar of coffee, so it’s always pretty fresh. Them big tubs. Yes cheap but thry go stall over time.

I’m more a fan of nescaffee Azera or the Alta Rica stuff.

  6. With instant coffee like this I find that if you put the milk in before the hot water it can improve the taste slightly. Appareby it doesn’t burn the coffee as much then. Also try substituting milk for cream.

  7. Fuck that shit.

I see in another comment this is the office coffee.

Buy an Aeropress and some pre ground coffee. You can ask the barista to grind it for you.

If you like it, you can look into getting a hand grinder and grinding it yourself for freshness.

You may catch some flack from others in the office, I’ve experienced this. Some people can’t wrap their head around the aeropress and think it’s too much effort or that you have notions. Fuck ’em, let them drink their cup of hot brown while you have delicious coffee!

  8. Even people who hate coffee snobs hate this. It’s like someone mixed Bisto and charcoal and buried in the garden for a year.

  9. Freez dried shite is shite. Go to a nice coffee place and get an amercano, black no sugger. Small bit of an acquired taste and lots of restaurants still use shit coffee, but if you find a nice one and like it, it’s a good sign you’ll like the following. For the cheapest setup for basic nice coffee at home, that is relatively low effort, get a drip filter machine from Argos for 20 odd bucks (this is like the machines they have in cop movies with the big jug of coffee. In this, the coffee goes in the top, the water is automatically heated and then dripped over the coffee grinds, before collecting in the jug below), and tescos own brand french roast ground coffee (it’s the pink one). That’s the cheapest setup for the nicest cheap coffee going. A few years later if you have cause to celebrate, buy a Bean to Cup machine and start to use fresh beans.

  10. Go Vietnamese style.

Need a [phin](https://nguyencoffeesupply.com/blogs/news/vietnamese-coffee-phin-filter-stainless-steel) and some sweetened [condensed milk](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71jq0NZey4L._SL1500_.jpg) (the shite for baking cakes isn’t sweet enough.)

I’d say you could find em in an asian market in town, or I could bring you one even. I’m back in Ireland end of October for a couple weeks and the phins are shockin cheap here (Vietnam.)

    Best coffee going.

  11. I was reared on it, but can’t stand it now. We have moved on a lot in our coffee tastes since this was all the rage. If you must have it mix it up with milk and sugar b4 adding boiling water.

  12. Teaspoon and a half of it, add milk, sugar to taste, boiled water and leave to sit.

Then chuck it down the sink and get a proper coffee

  13. This thread is a good read.Left Ireland 15 years ago and there wasn’t much of a coffee culture. Majority of people drank tea and if someone offered coffee it was instant.

  14. Lidls Belstrom coffee is nicer than Nescafé and Maxwell house and is a fraction of the price

  15. Absolutely fucking not .. Even if it was free I wouldn’t drink it . There is absolutely no difference between this and tap water
