Well, probably it’s time to use another, much darker red from now.
“everything is fine”
Romania and Bulgaria that had been the forefront of the fourth (delta) wave seem to have the worst over. The rest of Europe is likely to have a break in a few weeks, too, until the omicron wave arrives.
We’ve been in the dark red for probably like 8 weeks I’d say. Only real restrictions is bars and restaurants close at 12 (and of course are for vaccinated or recovered only indoors, but that since July when they opened). We have over 50% of 60+ year olds boosted so even if cases stay high, I’m hoping that hospitalisations drop to a more manageable level soon.
What I keep wondering for a while is how come Europe is so affected by the virus while Asian countries that have a far greater population density are doing so well? What is their secret?
This stat does not matter. We should be looking at hospitalisations/emergy room/deaths.
What’s the point of posting these maps when these statistics are skewed and do not reflect the overall situation very well due to e.g. varying levels of vaccinations? Yeah, sure the percentage of positives is high when only obvious cases are tested.
I love week numbering 🙂
The only country of these messing it up is Portugal, since they start on a Sunday.
Looking at this map makes me once again patriotic to be northern German

At least Italy is ok
[For comparison, here’s a map of covid deaths (7-day average)](https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explorer?tab=map&zoomToSelection=true®ion=Europe&facet=none&pickerSort=desc&pickerMetric=new_deaths_per_million&Metric=Confirmed+deaths&Interval=7-day+rolling+average&Relative+to+Population=true&Align+outbreaks=false&country=IND~USA~GBR~CAN~DEU~FRA)
