My baby was taken by social services – then murdered

  1. I don’t know what possesses social services to take children away from abused women but let their abuser have unsupervised access to them. And did they really do no screening of the prospective foster parents?

  2. It’s well beyond time that officials in social services responsible for overseeing cases such as this were brought to justice. Changes of corporate manslaughter might well be appropriate in cases such as this one. As it is they won’t even get a slap on the wrist.

These monsters and ghouls never get to be made accountable for the decisions they make as they destroy or ruin the lives of already vulnerable people. This needs radical change. And very much less excuse-making.

  3. Laura Castle had branded him “lazy” and “big” and said she didn’t love him.    Could we bring back the death penalty for infanticide?

  4. People in child services will tell you the problem, too many textbook social workers with not enough experience. Or those awful shitty few like I’m guessing these ones who’ll take the adoption bonus’ a little too often.

  5. I’m writing this with tears in my eyes.

Leiland-James and his mother deserved so much better than this. The picture of them in the contact centre grinning at each other – that could’ve been his life. I understand it’s more complicated than that, but boil it down and you get social services taking a baby away from a woman who adores him and wants to raise him – backed up by community support – and giving him to a woman who ‘leathers’ him, calls him lazy/big/moaning whingebag, and eventually murders him.

There is something incredibly fucking wrong there. I hope that adoptive ‘mother’ rots in the deepest pits of hell, and Leiland’s mother finds some peace eventually – and gets some justice.

  6. Jfc that is truly horrific I hope Laura can find some peace someday and just to make it worse for her she couldn’t even have that last moment of togetherness..

    >Laura was alone at the hospital when she arrived. She says by the time she got to his room, Leiland-James had died

Also this cunt knew more and may not have known about the murder but definitely didn’t stop the abuse beforehand which led up to it, he is very very lucky to be free. How can he escape any punishment after hearing about her ‘leathering’ poor Leiland-James.

    >Scott Castle, was cleared of causing or allowing Leiland-James’s death at the couple’s home. He told the court that on the morning of the fatal attack he was in bed asleep after working a night shift.

  7. I did a stint in SS admin and there is a toxic mess of overworked SWs and desperation for extra staff. In that desperation for staff, the temptation is there to take people who are sub-par. Mistakes can and will happen.

Even at the admin level, a lot of the time we would get calls from schools about a kid with marks or with questionable parent behaviour – sometimes no SW would be immediately available, especially during Covid, so admin had to provide advice to safeguarding leads or headteachers based on previous experience. Admin staff making sub £20k should not be placed in that position. Luckily, our team had a great manager and knowledgeable staff, but it is very easy to provide the wrong advice.

And of course, if you are doing well at the job, you’re not going to be continuing that for sub 20k. Not in this financial climate.

Morale was – and likely still is – at rock bottom.

  8. Holy shit, that is horrific. The catalog of failures by the system there is absolutely ridiculous. My heart goes out to his Mum and I only hope that this travesty leads to a thorough investigation and those responsible face appropriate consequences- removed from their positions of trust that they abused at the absolute *minimum* and preferably criminal negligence charges.

  9. You’d be fucking scared shitless being that social worker. There’s now a woman with *literally nothing to lose* who knows where you work.

And in reality you probably deserve that fear.

I mean, you quite literally took active steps to put a child with someone who killed them, you almost certainly lied and exaggerated to family court, and you at best didnt pay attention to the danger you placed this child in.

If any other health professional did this, they’d be sacked and deregistered overnight.

  10. As someone who was in and out of the system growing up, I didn’t believe for one second this was clickbait. I have experienced first hand the “help” unwanted, neglected and abused kids get.
Unfortunately, when the world assumes a child isn’t valued by their parents, they automatically devalue that child even more.

  11. Fuck. Child taken from a woman who appeared to have the support she needed and given to an abusive fuck. You’re telling me that the system could decide that someone’s past *might* put a child in danger but couldn’t determine that the child was being abused? Surely there were signs.

Also, what a fucked up system.

  12. This is why I hate these righty whities who say women always win child custody cases because even though in this case it wasn’t a divorce her story is still MASSIVELY the majority.

Women have their mental health and past abuse weaponised against them time and time again, and the people who get custody are almost always abusive and in many cases murderous.

  13. Very sad. But I’d like to hear the other side. If she was previously abused but left the relationship, what was going through the social workers minds? I’d be interested to know how they were justifying it.

I’m not saying this women is lying, but obviously this is one sided.

That said, it’s disgusting they didnt vet the Foster mom, and put him in danger. Disgusting.

  14. Sixteen years ago a friend of mine ASKED social services to find a foster carer for a few weeks as she was trying to escape a violent, alcoholic partner and set up a new place for her and her daughter to live in safety.

Years later, after court case after court case, the baby was now 3 and finally returned to her mother, who had married and was in a stable and loving relationship.

The little girl was very disturbed, smearing poo on her bedroom walls, crying, anxious and frightened.

Upon a medical examination, it was revealed the child had been severely sexually abused and had injuries internally that sicken me to think about to this day.

The Police were involved and they arrested the eldest son of the foster parents who had violated the little girl and his own female siblings.

I lost touch, so I don’t know what happened afterwards, but remember what a horrific experience it was.

  15. Social services and family court judges are the worst. This country has some serious issues from removals not following due process to rapes and murders of children that have been enabled by social services going unreported. The entire sector is rotten to the core.

  16. She was a massive heroin addict that had many children, all taken away, thats why the social services took her son away, now the lady that they put him with did a terrible thing.

  17. This article made me sick to my stomach. That poor, poor baby — how can anyone abuse any baby, child, animal, or otherwise helpless individual. I am actually sick from reading that article.
