A bunch of people getting themselves disconnected by their energy supplier would certainly help with European energy sobriety measures that the IPCC suggested in its latest report.
I don’t think this will work out the way they hope it does
> Her daughter does not work as she has two young children who are in need of full-time care, and has to rely on state benefits for her income.
“I’ve no idea how anyone in that situation … is going to get by,” she says.
By getting a job like everyone else. Having kids is not an excuse to stay home and live off of state benefits.
What’s wrong with UK recently? It seems like one bunch of nutjobs after another (or maybe they are the same) takes some random ’cause’ as an excuse to cause as much disruption as possible. It would be good idea to investigate who is actually funding them.
This is so, so stupid.
If you’re having difficultly paying, talk to your provider and pay **SOMETHING**.
If you pay absolutely nothing, things get a lot worse.
“Breaking News! *Don’t Pay UK* SHOCKED their energy was cut off by supplier they refused to pay!
In other news, car runs out of fuel because driver didn’t want to pay for petrol…and he’s furious, we’ll have more on this story at 4!”
I might need my credit rating, unfortunately.
Well on the plus side it will reduce demand for electricity and gas as a proportion of the country elects to be cut off.
Reality is it’s not that simple.
People are normally protected from being cut off in the UK. You have 28 days to pay your bill, then you get warnings before being cut off generally. Then it’s a court case.
Most are members of a voluntary scheme.
Between October and march you won’t be cut off if have children under 16. Or any time of year if disabled, have financial problems or children under 6.
Legally you can’t be cut off if an OAP.
Disconnections are rare, what normally happens is people get moved to a prepayment meter. So you have to pay for electricity before you use it, this is more expensive.
The real impact is a number of companies may withdraw from the scheme to protect people and actual vulnerable people may lose protections.

This will end well….
