Austria’s former chancellor Sebastian Kurz announces departure from politics

  1. The average life expectancy of the average Austrian government just went up by a sizable margin. Not very sad to see that power hungry populist go, although his personality cult of a party probably won’t be as happy.!Can’t wait to hear from him again once he’s indicted though.

  2. I’m guessing he’s leaving on his own terms before ongoing investigations force him anyway. And I am surprised and relieved. There was a time this year when it really looked like Austria would go down the path of Hungary, Turkey, Poland or Serbia — with a leader who’s almost impossible to dislodge. Now we’re less close to the brink.

They’re announcing that minister of the interior Nehammer will possibly be the next chancellor. He’s a nasty person, but I suspect he will not be there for long. I’m smelling a snap election and after a long time the social democrats (flawed as they might be) have a shot at 1st place again.

  3. Hot damn, I didn’t think it would be this severe. Corrupt to the core, him and his entire party. But then again, the average Austrian probably deserves to be led by people who despise them! Year and year they elect blatantly corrupt people and always, ALWAYS do the surprised Pikachu face when there is yet another right wing scandal.
