Also NIMBY drivers who for some reason think parking spaces are more important than housing.

Is there a reason the data centres need to be local to these companies? I assume there must as building in the North would be cheaper in terms of both land acquisition and cooling costs.
On the flip side, it would be interesting to see some form of low-grade heat transfer system to use the data centre energy for heating (though I can’t imagine it would be terribly efficient).
