I’m looking at apartments on [finn.no](https://finn.no/) and one line says Ingen gjenboere, which translates to no returnees via Google (I know, I know…I’m learning as fast as I can!).

Does this mean no foreigners? No refugees? Something entirely different?

Tusen takk!

  1. My understanding of it is limited to the literal, so I asked my partner who speaks Norwegian natively. She said it basically means you don’t have any shared boundaries with the owner. Like they’re not your neighbor or live in the building.

  2. It should mean nobody can see in to your apartment or the property. It just means more privacy. If there is gjenboere you might live in a house or an apartment where your neighbours can look in to your living area easily or even without trying.

A gjenboer is typically someone who lives close to you not does not share a property ine with you. Like they would live on the other side of a path or road of some kind.

It is better explained here (in norwegian): [https://forklarmeg.com/ingen-gjenboere-forklart/](https://forklarmeg.com/ingen-gjenboere-forklart/)

  3. It has nothing to do with the landlord/owner, it means no one can see into the property, as in no one lives opposite with a view in you your living room/bedroom.
