Hi guys,
I was wondering if my electricity is being stolen due to the high usage.
I am aware of high prices of energy. But I seriously think that the usage it so damn high for my household.
Electricity meters are located in a location in Building where no one has access to them. If you need meter reading, you call Hausmeister and they send a photo for you. I am not even sure the meter I am registered with is even my meter???!!
The apartment adjacent to me is rented by our landlord on short term basis (air bnb). I suspect that may be that is the apartment using my power.
How can i check?
It is super fishy that no one has access to the meters. And landlord got me registered her self for the energy supplier. Why? How?
Edit: hey guys, I thought I will share picture of my meter readings.
These readings are exactly on 27.05 and 29.07
I also happened to co incidental capture photos of my neighbour“s meter. Here these are:
My usage for 2 months is total 650 = 350/month.
Their usage 663 for two month. And it is mid of summer. We don’t even use hot water as much for shower.
What is going on?

It IS possible that the other apartment runs on the same meter as you do and you are paying for both. Of course that would be against your lease contract and highly illegal.
Your landlord handling everything and you not even having access or knowledge about your meter seems VERY fishy, How do you pay your power? I think you would have to know the power meter number at the very least…
No idea how you could have this checked out. Probably get an electrician?
Edit: I would ask the Hausmeister to see the meters myself. Note the numbers of all the meters so you can reference them later. There should be numbers on the meters which are registered with the power company. There might also be notes that say which meter belongs to which apartment (for example “EG links”)
You can test it. Shut everything down in your appartement, then look at your counter. If it still moves, somebody is using your electricity.
What means your usage is damn high.
How many kWh per year was billed to you?
An average for 2 persons would be 2.500 kWh
Hi, yeah ist could bei but also there ist the Option that your Energy Meter and the one ur neighbors using is switched so they pay ur usage and u there’s. You can check this if you essentially turn of you main Switch “Sicherungskasten” and look if your energy meter still counts. You can read more on this here: https://www.enbw.com/service/zaehlerverwechslung it’s in German but you could translate ist via deep L. Or Google “zählerverwechslung”.
Not having access to the meter us not uncommon in apartment blocks. Usually it *prevents* anyone from fiddling with the installation and stealing electricity.
Compare the meter number on your electrucity bills with the one on the picture.
One way to check if something is fishy: call the Hausmeister and ask not for a foto, but for an appointment to have a look for yourself. Switch off all circuit breakers in your apartment and watch the meter for a while – it should not move.
You should also notify your electricity provider – but they can only do something if the meter itsself or the cables directly connected to it have been manipulated. But having your doubts “on the record” might be helpful anyway.
Do you have a Durchlauferhitzer (flow heater) for warm water. If something in it is defect, it can use enormous amounts of energy, because even if it is working fine it uses a lot.
You could also lend an ammeter to measure all your electrical devices to see if something uses more power than it should. Oftentimes there are free or cheap lending opportunities nearby.
I don’t know if it was the electricity or the water, but something was once switched between my mom’s flat and neighbours.
While they had to pay for 2 people, we had to pay for 5+ people with barely minimum wage from one person. But hat got fixed.
Maybe something is off with a counter of your building?
The behavior of landlord and care taker is not uncommon. Your consumption is really high though. You could get some Meter for measuring your own consumption. That will take a while…
Check your meter. And then turn everything off for 24hrs and check your meter again. Your meter shouldn’t move at all.
High energy consumption can also be an indicator for a broken fridge/freezer or water heater.
Bin Elektriker und ja ist ganz einfach. Zumindest den strom vom Haus zu nutzen den alle zahlen
It is. General electricity needs (lamps in the hallway, electricity for the laundry room) for an apartment block can be tapped in if a resident sneakily lays some cables.
That’s what the dude did above us, until the new house owner threw him out. All the residents never knew about it. We basically paid for his and his families electricity in our utilities statement.
