Isn’t 86% of Britain White? Looking at this years squad photo I see 3 out of 23 girls are probably not White, which makes 13%, so this looks pretty representative of the overall population tbh
It is in every club’s interest to pick/recruit the best players. If a majority of the best players currently avaliable happen to be white then so be it. Im sure there will be a swing in the near future.
I guess it boils down to – Would you prefer it if we had a more diverse squad but then didn’t do as well?
I wonder if this is more of a class thing, than a race thing. Hearing the England players talk, they sound more middle class than the men’s team. Men’s football is obviously very working class, but I get the feeling that this is less true about women’s football.
I’ll say it: the left-wing media is grooming a negative and entitled attitude.
It’s not good to have a society where you are represented *nowhere* but you have to accept that you won’t be represented everywhere either.
I always enjoyed watching basketball (more than any other American sport anyway) and there was one good white player.
Asian people, the second largest racial group in the country by some way, don’t seem bothered by (or at least aren’t vocal) about the lack of Asian players in football.
If you can’t identify with people because they are a different race, despite being from the same country, that’s pretty sad. Reminds me of Sandra Bullock saying that her daughter complained that Squid Game had no black people.
Unsurprisingly the old white men are out in force telling us why representation doesn’t matter, why they’re happy with it, why it makes no sense to talk about it.
It matters. It has a far wider ranging impact than “Letting more black players have a kick about.” It’s not the surface level you make it out to be otherwise NOBODY would have a problem with it. Nobody with a brain in their nut is saying the coach just picked the white kids.
I sometimes wonder if people from big cities think that the rest of the country is just empty.
