Frank Clarke quits job as Dubai judge following criticism by Labour’s Ivana Bacik of desert kingdom’s regime

  1. Really bizarre that he ever thought lending his credibility to that Court was appropriate, especially when he is president of the law reform commission. He’s also on the Irish Horseracing Regularly Board, and questions need to be asked about the continued appropriateness of that position given his (now former) Dubai employer’s extensive interests in horses here.

    This is mad though:

    >Mr Clarke subsequently clarified that it was the attorney general, Paul Gallagher, whom he had informed about his Dubai appointment, as he was the person who had approached him over the LRC position on behalf of the Government.

How the fuck did the AG not consider it appropriate to inform Government of that when he was brought before government for appointment to the LRC?

  2. Are the opinions of the leader of the Labour Party even relevant in this discussion? Was it her comments alone that prompted him to resign? I would be telling her to f— away with herself. If it were the Taoiseach calling for my head on the other hand, well then so be it. I fall on my sword.
