Swiss plan to register air passenger details sparks criticism

  1. > America’s federal government demanded access to passenger data. Destination, name, passport number, birth date and method of payment are now analysed by the authorities to identified suspicious travellers.

Most airlines are already asking for that information when you fly out of Schengen, so what else could they introduce? Also, up until February you had to fill out that Covid thing on the BAG site that asked for A LOT of information each time you entered Switzerland.

  2. Lol we couldn’t keep track of contact tracing during Covid now Security forces expect to be able to predict a terrorist by tracking their payment method? I’m all for security but if the people behind are underequipped or just dumb it’s a waste of money.

  3. Next – “System error: the database shows you have already booked 3 flights during the last 6 months, exceeding your CO2 quota.”

  4. >It’s a law that will help counter terrorism and criminality

I always wonder how that works. Terrorist and criminals are professionally good at forging these things and probably have unlimited budget to thwart these systems. I mean how naive can you be.

What would be helpful is showing how removing privacy helped counter terrorism and criminality in the past.

  5. The US system or “No-Fly list” is rife with errors. When I lived there, someone with my first and last name was on their “No-Fly list” and it was a huge problem flying anywhere. I had to register all my details including passport and driver license with them AT MY OWN COST so I could fly anywhere.

  6. Ou c’mon! Terrorists are also minority. Why do you want to take them possibility to fly? Sounds offensive to me..
