> The sticker was party material from a far-right Dutch-speaking irredentist group– Voorpost. The group wants to unite Flanders and the Netherlands
They love Flemish so much they want to make it subordinate to the dutch lmao
Gohja, tis dat er in Brussel nooit incidenten zijn met et le francais stickers. Give and take ^^^
Fucking hell, stopt daar es mee. Hoe meer talen hoe beter. Stopt met memmen. Das echt gelijk een inwoner van San Diego die neut over mensen die Spaans spreken op straat in plaats van “American”.
As rude as those guys with their stickers may have been, I do hope the shop owner plans on learning the language if he’s going to stick around. Should have done so before moving tbf.
Despicable action, no doubt. But my 72 year old mum went to the Zara store in the center of Aalst and asked for assistance and was met with an English only speaking shop assistant. She made it clear she doesn’t speak English and a 2nd assistant was called to help her, this time it was in French only… My mum left the store thinking she was at fault for not speaking any other language than Dutch. Sorry, I’m all for all getting along, but if I shop in Spain, I’m not expecting to be helped in Dutch, I do however expect it when in Aalst.
The owner has a point indeed, there are tons of straight up Dutch businesses in Ardennen, such fuss over one french speaking shop in Oostende (arguably equally touristy) is really unjustifiable.
It’s a pop up store and its intended audience are tourists.
It has popped up there every summer for years.
The proprietor has never had issues with the locals, who accept him.
This is not a cultural or linguistic issue.
This is Voorpost coming to Ostend trying to stir shit just like they did last year with their “mars tegen straffeloosheid” which ended up with them intimidating and scolding the local population too.
Police then responded lenient towards their unauthorised march and their racist chanting. They learnt from that, and now they’re turning it up a notch.
slowly but sure we are moving to self driving cars and yes universal translaters.
… a universal translater can you ilagen what it will do forca country like switzerland then imagen what it means for belgium
I stopped reading after „I was a victim of racism, a bit like painting a yellow star on my window,” he lamented.“
How dare you compare an “inflammatory sticker on the windows” with the symbol the Nazis used to mark those they were planning to extinct in the shoa? Brussels Times should feel ashamed to publish this.
Brainless idiots. Too bad they are allowed to vote…
Oh boy… wait until those Flemish Nationalists hear about Knokke.
Wat een intolerante idioten.
Oh come on… Is that back? I guess some people will never learn.
