Long Covid costing UK workers up to £1.5bn yearly in lost income, says IFS

  1. The same sort of cunts who try to pretend that climate change isn’t real worked very hard to set up a false dichotomy early on in the pandemic – they told us that it was a choice between letting a few old people die or facing economic ruin.

It turns out that there wasn’t any such choice. In reality, our Government’s failures on Covid ensured that hundreds of people would die needlessly *and* that there’s a greater economic cost than there would have been to taking Covid seriously.

  2. 2 million people with long covid, 450k of which are severely impacted, most of which are working age. That alone can explain all the labour shortages in the country! It is a staggering number of people and its growing fast, half of them are Omicron based.

The other 2 million number is the amount the government is spending on researching the condition, which is peanuts. Its made worse because 60% of it is going to psychology for what is clearly a post viral disease. Really we are spending less than a million pounds on trying to work out what is happened and how to help sufferers. Which is why the UK is no where in the research of the condition and is not in the top 50 medical papers on the condition.

A union rep friend says that at their work there are quite a lot of people with with the condition, some of which have been out for over a year now. Its debilitating but eventually the company will run out of insurance and will fire them, so there are more job losses due to Long Covid to come. Everyone there knows someone who is impacted by it its very common.
