Heathrow boss blames passengers with too much makeup for massive delays

  1. Haha I was at the airport the other day and actually noticed the huge amounts of makeup, fake tan and lip jobs everyone was wearing

  2. Well obviously the title is misleading. I passed through security an hour ago and they had to check so many plastic bags with creams, liquids and etc.

  3. Serious question.

I recently flew Manchester > Cologne and then returned Cologne > Dublin > Manchester.

On the flights from Dublin/Manchester I had to get all of my electronics and liquids out of my hand luggage and put them in a seperate tray. Plus take my shoes off.

On the flight from Cologne I could leave my shoes on and leave everything in my bag.

Why is it *that* fucking different an experience?

  4. The number of people who still don’t know how to do airport security properly is baffling, to be fair. And all the people who can’t seem to follow the very simple instructions on the e-passport machines. Those queues would go a lot quicker if it weren’t for that basic incompetence.

  5. Capitalists gonna capitalist.

“we cant possible say it’s our fault…we must blame someone else.. lets blame the passengers”

taking tips from downing street i guess…

  6. Flight from italy last month, pilot said to everyone please put your stuff away quickly because if we don’t push back in 15 minute we lose our slot

Because everyone had ignored the hand luggage restrictions, Ryanair hadn’t had the time to enforce them, and people were milling round with a wheely bag, another bag, a carrier bag etc. people were still faffing around 20 minutes later, and we had to wait two hours to take off.

  7. They could employ someone to stand before entry to security line and ask people “have you already separated your liquids into a 100ml bag?” and they’d probably get more than 60% of those cases.

Another problem is the security twats who won’t let you use the zip bag given from Berlin airport, it has to be in the sandwich bag that’ll burst open under a little pressure so you can buy the same product at the Boots after you’ve passed security.

We all know the rule is BS.

  8. The amount of people in the comments section saying that people don’t know the rules, have had holdups due to this, that and the other are missing the point.

The airport will know how long it takes X number of people to get through the security. This number will include the people who don’t pay attention, have fake legs, trying to take a 2 litre bottle of coke through etc.

They’re just not putting enough people on to deal with the number of passengers. You can’t blame the passengers, even if some are a bit slow. This is the responsibility of the airport, or whoever employes the staff at security.

  9. Know what else causes delays. People who don’t take their trays off the conveyor belt to collect their stuff elsewhere. Just standing at the conveyor putting their stuff away and then fk off leaving the tray there. Just causes a pile up. Absolute rats.

  10. Nothing to do with making most of the work force redundant during lockdown then.
Then expecting them to comebackbfor less pay and worse conditions.
Fuck off you twat its your fault.

  11. Ahh, I see you guys are going through this shit too. In Australia we had the CEO of our flag carrier blame “inexperienced travellers”.

  12. I have flown multiple times this year and honestly, you see the worst of humanity in airports. People not taking masks off then being surprised when the facial recognition e-gates have a hard time recognising them, people blatantly not putting liquids in the clear white bags etc.

  13. I flew from Heathrow recently and if anyone wants to know what it’s really like:

Having only 3 belts open for my airline for checked in luggage, out of about 50 available conveyor belts most of which weren’t in use at all (Note, this was the only departing flight with said airline that day so they in particular wouldn’t have been too busy to have it be for everyone)

Then said airlines belts I was flying with were only for use if you had bought first class (of which there were 24 seats in TOTAL for first class, with only 8 passengers even using them, again, only flight with them all day)

So then I have to queue up for “self check-in” for about 40 minutes before realising the queue has not moved an inch in that time despite me accidentally starting two-thirds into it due to a lack of signage, so I start sneakily cutting in the line further (needs must), towards the few of the self-check-in machines even on/functioning (which kind of defeats the selling point of a self check in machine which is that it requires no one to operate. Note this was with me turning up 3 and a half hours before my flight, which is earlier than their website recommended at the time)

Then when I came back a few days later, had my pilot say “Well we have gotten you to your destination on time, unfortunately there is no one to connect the passenger bridge, I hope they come soon.” with us waiting almost 20 minutes for that, then once that was connected we all headed through only to find the next door from the plane into arrivals is locked, so we then had to wait around 15 minutes for someone who can barely speak English to turn up and unlock it, who then tells us to wait for another 5 minutes, only to just let us through without anything seeming to change as to why we could, only to go into a room full of multiple escalators that weren’t turned on.

Then eventually having walked along the floor conveyors in the long hallways, also not turned on, to the security part with the e-passport gates, which like the self check in I mentioned earlier, mostly weren’t on, and don’t seem to work for anyone with the “wrong” features for the program (i.e. anyone with facial hair, non-white skin, or too “aggressive looking” which would be most of the angry looking fed up men in the line behind me) with us all being sent to the ONE open “seek assistance” desk despite there being multiple border force employees standing around having chats, all taking about half an hour from the start of the queue until then.

And then to top it off lastly, my luggage not even being loaded off the plane yet, with me looking at my watch and the various multiple day old suitcases in piles around me anxiously while I wait for another 20 minutes to see if my luggage and me will be leaving this building at separate times.

Yeah, somehow none of that involved makeup, ironically security was the only part that seemed to run “like normal”, though I suppose this might be heathrows new normal as they must have forgotten that summer holidays aren’t just a one-off occurence.

  14. Maybe if Heathrow invested in modern technology it wouldn’t be an issue. Flew back from Aus this year and they have modern scanners which don’t require you to remove laptops, iPads or liquids. They also have these in Italy and other European countries. I guess it’s just easier to blame the customers!

  15. Flew back through Heathrow recently. They kept us on the plane for an hour because there were no ground crew to get us off. Make up was not an issue.
