British wine wholesaler ‘leaves Brexitland for good’ over paperwork

  1. I don’t blame them for leaving, this country is not in a good way atm and it doesn’t seem to be going to get any better judging the two potential Tory PM candidates.

  2. 200 pages of red tape on every consignment.

“It is absolutely incredible that in the 21st century people are being, in effect, barred from importing from Europe unless they pay brokers lots of money,” he said.

He described the UK government’s claims that Brexit was done as “fatuous”, as many small- to medium-sized businesses could not cope with trade barriers that now exist for anyone trading with Europe.

  3. ‘There he will set up a French company to export back to his own company in Wales’

So he’s not leaving the UK then lmao

  5. Well in terms of import export being in the EU is just a more attractive business prospect. All they have ever wanted to do is turn the UK into a tax haven (money laundromat). It will very much become a 2 tier system with respect to quality of life also.

The amount of money Brexit is going to have cost the UK is going to be insane.

  6. Well. I’ve finally been convinced.

Brexit wasn’t so bad afterall. I’ve always thought alcohol shouldn’t be consumed. The most abused harmful substance in the world as many smokers only smoke with a drink, or smoke much more. Plus the crimes and violence that occurs. The long term effect it has on health and families.

Structuring his business for profit and avoiding regulation, increasing profits, truly capitalist. There is no loyalty to the country you grew up in, only to the pound note at the end of the day.

    It’s a sick society roy.

  7. Literally the only thing stopping me from fucking off is money. Working on that last issue as we speak, hopefully will be able to escape brexitland as well soon.

  8. Mr Lambert hasn’t ‘left Brexitland for good’ . He’s merely setting up a company in France to facilitate his company in the UK. Rees-Mogg did the same ten minutes after the UK left the EU.

  9. Isn’t that more of a EU that they have complex paperwork and no business that exports outside the EU can do it right?

    Seems like blame shifting.

And he is not actually leaving, just setting up a hub in the EU, which is what businesses growing to a certain size do anyway.

  10. In this day and age with digital histories, point to point logistics etc it amazes me that this bs isn’t just a tick box. 200 pages? wtf. This isn’t a failing of politics, this is a failing of technology/integration.

Given most products, especially those intended for human consumption typically have a history that goes all the way back to the farm. This is how they manage recalls (tracing the source of contamination) etc.

This is just red tape because nobody bothered to homologise the process

  11. And today the same people who voted Brexit so we could control our borders, are now outraged at cost being imposed by the Spanish government to enter Spain for their holidays. Welcome to the world of borders. The astonishing take away is they still don’t understand the irony of their outrage.

  12. I bet he could grow the grapes in France easier, it isn’t like large swathes of it have been on fire recently /s.

Actually I bet he can hire Eastern Europeans for below minimum wage or basically nothing to pick the grapes in France, maybe even some modern day slaves. Also hire cheap haulage from trucks driven by Eastern Europeans on very small wages as well, with cheap fuel from Russia. Really up his profit margins, shame about their working standards and their pay but who cares as long he makes a lot money.

Oh actually… why wouldn’t he not claim non-domicile tax status in the UK and make more money there too?

  13. It’s what happens when people (zombies)? vote to become a third world country and subsequently a third word citizen. I hope he, and his business thrives in the EU.

  14. There’s demand for software engineers in brexitland, so as a software engineer student after graduation, I’m traveling to germany.
