Lamp socket, normally there’s a switch that controls it.
Looks like a South African socket.
A 5 amp/lamp socket. Usually a few are in the room on their own circuit so you can turn all the lamps on from the wall. You’ll need 5 amp plugs for the lamps
It’s a 5 amp socket. Used for plugging in lights / lamps. You should be able to get a corresponding plug at your local DIY place.
5 amp lamp socket. We have them here. One switch makes the all the lamps come on at the same time. makes the missus feel like the place is a hotel!
Ok thanks lads, that also explains what extra switch do.
one lamp to light them…
one lamp to bright them…
one lamp to cover the hall…
one switch to rule them all!
TIL what a lamp socket is.
Looks to be an outie one if I had to judge
The wrong one.
I thought they only put these in hotels.
It’s a lamp socket.
But why have you torn the whole thing out of the wall? (and not unscrew the front cover)
Wow. I have a couple in my house and never knew what they were! Woodies here I come.
Rewire the house.
Run a Stanley knife around the edges of your faceplates before unscrewing them to avoid taking the paint off the wall
Also, 5amp socket, for lamps
Very useful to have if you’re not a fan of main ceiling light whether that be pendants or downlighting but less relevant now since the role out of smart bulbs.
Predator…. Get out of that house!!
I see these all over the place and never knew what they were.
What’s the logic in why lamp sockets be any different ?
Roundy ones with three sticky out prongy things. If anyone wants further details tell them the top one is bigger than the other two on the bottom, about the size of 0.000025 football pitches if they want to get really tEchnICal…
Have one that’s for a lamp , light switch just for it too.
Looks like you got a wocket in your socket.
A lamp socket. Quite common in older houses in London
