  2. Our federal Minister for Health Vandenbroucke is apparently ‘disappointed’ by the weak compromise.

So… we getting another commitee next week?

  3. I was hoping they’d make a more concrete decision for Christmas. I don’t want them to come together on the 20th and then decide what we can and can’t do for Christmas.

We had planned a Christmas menu at work, but we currently have no idea if it will be possible, or how many people can be seated at one table on Christmas. We will probably end up doing a Christmas takeaway like we did last year just to be safe.

We’ve already had so many reservations cancel in the last two weeks. I would not be surprised if we had people cancel for Xmas now too.

  4. Can’t believe Jambon had the nerve to say that the new measures are good because it’s the ones he suggested a few days ago. You spend your days saying everything and it’s contrary, you moron! A broken clock without hands is right more often than you.

  5. I guess this is the first time they target elementary school before tackling recreation. I really hope this doesn’t become the new strategy for the inevitable next committees.

  6. “Why u touching dem kids with grown up problems”.

Glad they’re taking measures for once. It’s not because they can’t get ill, they can’t screw up others.

And how does that get the numbers down in the next 2 weeks?

  11. “We strongly recommend you do what the experts say is needed.”

Those among us that are smart and reasonable already do that simply because, well, they’re the experts, and if they’re saying thats what we need to do then that is what we need to do.

I really dont think the rest of our society is going to go ‘you know I was on the fence about this and was considering what the experts were recommending, but now that the government has also strongly recommended it I’m going to start doing it.’

In other news the justice department has found a way to save tremendous amounts of money. Starting next year they will strongly recommend people to not commit crime, which is expected to reduce crime to practically 0 therefore saving us a ton of money.

  14. As an elementary school teacher I can promise you no 6 year old will be wearing a mask consistently in any school. The 10 year olds are already incapable of using theirs effectively.

Stop making dumb rules that won’t be followed and just mandate vaccination already.

  16. They should have just closed the schools, given the children their now approved shots as soon as possible so this won’t happen again. In my opinion.

  17. my 5 cents for what it’s worth:

    1. These measures don’t account for [a more transmissible omicron variant](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FFnyuSUXEAManio?format=jpg&name=4096×4096)
    2. Primary education and kindergarten only gets shut down within 2 weeks, that’s two more weeks where this virus spreads ‘freely’. They shut down the week before the 25th. A kid that get’s home sick just before they shut down infects his parents. Given an incubation period of 5 days before possible symptoms can be noticed we have already +2-3 people at the family Chrismas party who are sick without knowing it.
    3. Cafés remain open until 23h (without mask or how else do you expect me to drink my beer) but we restrict education because ‘reasons’ (bullet point 4). It’s the only specific comparison I’m going to make but it just doesn’t make sense if you want to slow the virus down in 20 days. You want to hit it ‘hard’ so that possible risky behaviour during the holidays doesn’t put us instantly above certain tresholds again where new measures are needed again.
    4. Education is the only place where contact tracing is so consistantly done, sure it’s the place where you will now detect the most active virus.
    5. Going back to point 1, you need good and active overal measures. Not a little bit here, and a little bit there. The virus is spread widely in society, you will only fight this with measures that hit all aspects of social contact.
    6. Bonus: 3 weeks ago a cluster in a class only got the whole class in quarantine when 4 kids tested positive. One week ago that became 3. Today this became 2 again, the number it was before Weyts started to trick the ‘absent’ class numbers with this mathemetical trick three weeks ago. There have been more and bigger infected clusters directly because if this decision.

  18. For the love of God, all these half-assed measures aren’t doing shit. The thing that matters the most is the healthcare system being overflooded. When you look at the statistics, unvaccinated patients are flooding it.

    Solution: make vaccination mandatory.

They should stop threading the needle and try to find the right balance, just do it already and let’s be done with this.

  20. The only right decision would be: mandatory vaccination, even for children. If not, it will always be an uphill neverending battle.

Time to enforce rather than slowley marching to an endless downspiral of half-measures in order to save political face.
