Last week I got a full UK driving license and am going to Cyprus for the next few weeks. I can quite easily drive an old X5 my parents have, however I am wondering if I will be allowed to since I am only 17 and am unsure what the driving age in Cyprus is. I have read conflicting information about this and help would be appreciated.

Vs 18

Driving Licence Categories and Minimum Ages

  1. The driving age is 18.

17 is when you can get a provisional licence but only for driving lessons purposes. Meaning you need to be someone who has a full driving licence.

Edit: it really depends on the circumstances and if you’re willing to risk being caught.

Are you renting? They won’t rent to anyone under 21.

Are you borrowing someone’s car? Even if they decide that your licence is valid, you’ll get done in with the lack of insurance.

  2. That’s not the issue. Cypriot insurances won’t issue a cover note to anyone under 18. So your parents might say it’s okay but the insurance will disagree there.

You really need to call the Cypriot police and ask them what the legality of the situation is.
