  1. Both British and French services should be ashamed of themselves for how this was handled. For emergency services, it shouldn’t matter which countries waters they are in.

Arguing over responsibilities can wait till those in trouble are on dry land.

  2. “One of those onboard the boat that night was 18-year-old Twana Mamand Mohammad, who had left his home in the mountains of northern Iraq three months earlier to chase his dream of playing football in England.”

I feel a bit harsh pointing this out, but if everything had gone well and they didn’t sink and lose all but two of the passengers, this was his plan? Become a professional footballer?

So it sounds like the French waited for them to drift over into British waters and then rang us up to say “it izz now zor problez” and hung up… at which point an argument ensued over who should rescue them because otherwise Petty Patel won’t have hit her drowning migrant quota for the week, and she can’t have that.

But you know I’m sorry to say this, but it will rate very very low on things people give a shit about, even I am at the point of “well they chanced it, they know people die doing this” its kind of like what was happening when the IRA was blowing up people every other week, you get so used to it, it just sort of gets tuned out.

  3. its hardly surpising is it? if you decide to make a crossing on illegally on a dinghy filled to the brim then you accept that it might sink
