It’s like inflation. You’ll either love it or hate it.
So we’re not allowed to ask for a pay rise to keep up with the cost of living because it will cause a wage-price spiral, but corporations can put prices up in response to inflation that in turn increases inflation?
Got it.
0% of this price rise is going on workers wages
Absolutely outstanding that it’s Unilever who own Marmite now, that classic staple, the British tradition, so wholesome and nationalist, reminds you of your childhood…
Now owned by one of the largest, most soulless, faceless, non-entity juggernaut dystopian-nightmare corporations the world has ever seen – Union-busting, slave labour, aaaall of the plastic waste, the billions in profit paying minimum wage to the majority of their workforce, the whole nine yards.
And they are the harbingers of “inflation” AKA record corporate profits. Great little microcosm of the current state of England, really.
I presume the Tories will be on in a moment to tell Unilever that their greed is pushing us into a price rise spiral.
Fine by me as long as they increase the staff wages by the same, otherwise it’s nothing other than profiteering
bet they havent risen their wages by 11%
You can find the full report from their earnings call this morning here.
Sales up, profits up in absolute terms, but profit margins down. So overall, they’re taking some of the hit themselves, but this is mostly down to the bargaining power that large supermarkets have to keep prices down.
I posted not long ago on here about Marmite, and how it had gone down in price compared to everything else going up.
A jar in Tesco was £2.70 in 2020, but down to £2.49 in March this year, last week I saw it was back to £2.70 and I guess with this new rise it’ll go over £3.
Personally I’ve been a heathen and been having Vegemite for the last few months, it’s cheaper than Marmite even accounting for the travel, and I must say I prefer it.
But surely raising prices will lead to a cost-inflation spiral?!? Surely government and media will be stepping in to control these by putting in price caps and attacking these business leaders?
Don’t buy brands so don’t care
I dont buy it anyway, but I’m boycotting all of the companies raising the prices by so much. Like my favourite loaf of bread has gone up by 60p from £1.25 to £1.85. I have stopped buying it. In fact I’ve reduced my consumption I only eat once a day now. Lost weight, but I’ve had enough of this country.
For the full year of 2021, net sales sat at €52.4bn, up 3.4% on the
previous year, with the fastest underlying sales growth reported in nine
years at 4.5%. Full year net profit was €6.6bn, up 9% on 2020.
Marmite’s name has been dirt to me since the great Marmite betrayal of 2020. Vegemite is fine thank you!
My dad kept banging on about how great Mighty (Aldi clone) is and he bought me a jar and I must say it’s great
Tastes the same
Not as thick so easier to spread directly
Half the price
Mighty gang rise up!
To be honest I think this degree of price rise is pretty disgusting and clear gouging but I spoke to my partner and they said they think it’s great that they’re finally getting what they deserve.
Step 1: “Because of inflation we will have to raise prices”
Step 2: *Inflation increases due to increase in prices*
Repeat step 1
Inflation at 9% so they put the price up 11%. Cool.
