They should look in Downing Street if they want to cut crime.
Oh, god, is it that simple? All the police have to do is the job they’re already bloody doing, with no extra resources (because tax cuts are more important regardless of what effect they have) and magically crime will go down? Or would more likely, nothing would change but the government would stop counting some crime as crime as a way to say crime went down, and bonus, people will argue over whether the stats are right and not the lack of funding that the police service gets.
Note not ‘vows to cut crime by 20%’ but ‘vows to tell someone else to cut crime by 20%’. The inevitable failure has a built in excuse.
The party of Law and order that screwed cops under Cameron, resulting in thousands of experienced mid service officers leaving, cut numbers under May and re employed numpties under Boris to make up for losses. Is going to be chasing Targets and prioritising resources to JUST THOSE TARGETS under Truss.
Shitshow
Oh if only it were the case.
Somebody should have told police sooner…
We have been here before when middle managers were employed by the police as “crime managers” or rather better known as “crime massagers”. This was peak New Labour target culture.
Basically finding ways to fiddle figures to suit the months targets, not illegal but probably unethical tactics that went on, people being arrested for different crimes so they didn’t show up in certain figures etc.
Its again some headline grab that survives little contact with reality, like there is some miracle method out there that no one has thought of which is a bit way to achieve this. Trust me if there was a way to cut crime by 20% then most forces would because they might actually have a chance of doing some proactive work. All you end up is fiddling the books.
It’d be nice if they could stop hiring people that lack the ability to keep their dick in their pants or murdering innocent women. That’d be a cracking start to crime prevention.
Shut up crime!
Ah yes, I forget it’s as simple as telling the police to cut crime. Why hasn’t anyone thought of that before?
This is coming from the party that the Met refuses to police adequately.
So does she think the police will have a magic wand to do this?
Is she going to give the police more funding to recruit more officers?
Seems one place to start would be the old bill themselves.
Reminds me of “the wire”
About the only sensible thing she’s said
What’s that? Cut serious crime by 20%?
Easy peasy. Your stabbing has been downgraded to a minor disagreement on Twitter. No crime committed.
Any other requests, prospective PM?
Well maybe if the government didn’t make twitter behaviour a matter of law then the cops wouldn’t have to get involved, but even so this suggests that they are spending 20% of their time sorting out social media, which seems a bit extreme.
I’m fairly sure that if the government finally listened to the multitude of expert panels that have over the last two decades or so called for common recreational drugs to be legalised / decriminalised, regulated and taxed, not only would they cut crime by more than 20% overnight but they’d have a lovely new tax stream to line their own pockets with.
That, however, would be too much like forward thinking.
that’s all well and good, until a teenage girl appears on GMTV with her Mum explaining how she reported online bullies etc to the police, cue all the usually outraged people going nuts about it.
“Tell them to cut crime”
why did no one ever think of that
This reminds me of that scene in The Simpsons, when Homer is hired by Hank Scorpio and gets his own team.
“Are you guys working?”
“Yes ma’am, Ms Truss.”
“Could you, um, work any harder than this?”
“Sure thing, boss!”
“Hey, call me Liz.”
Saying you’ll do something doesn’t automatically get it done, does it.
Truss: Can you do this?
Police: no
Truss: Oh well i told them!
Yet a man got jailed for posting a video where he said racist things about Priti Patel.
Andy Dawson threatened to kick Michael Gove in the nuts in front of his wife and got a police caution. He quit twitter soon after.
She happily went along with cutting our police forces (austerity led to the loss 23000 police support workers and 21000 officers) and she pretends that twitter disputes are the reason why crimes aren’t being solved? Give me a break!
So more quality, experienced police then. But didn’t the Tories cut the forces and lose experienced bobbies and officers? They expect mass recruitment and policing success from newbies with zero experience? It’ll take years! And is the pay and potentially rushed mass recruitment likely to result in some bad appointments and poor policing?
Oh yes, telling the police to do it will magically make it happen. Next she’ll order the banks to cut inflation by 40%.
Wait, didn’t that already happen?
Cut crime by 20%…
Also Tories, think that restoring police to 2010 levels (not really considering 18,500 officers will leave in the time it takes 20,000 to be recruited) when the population is 3.5 million bigger than 2010 will help this.
Ridiculous. The Tories will then think that funding police to a level appropriate TEN YEARS AGO means police have no excuses and are lazy if they don’t cut crime by this arbitrary figure.

Just below this are [three posts](https://i.imgur.com/triiJpW.jpg) about officers committing crimes.
