  1. I disagree that PhDs students shouldn’t be made to teach. If you’re trying to prepare them for academia then teaching experience is vital. In fact I think universities should be encouraging it way more than they already do. It’s kind of ridiculous that it’s possible to not teach once and yet still be considered qualified to lecture once they hand you that piece of paper.

    Everything else I agree with. I’m also surprised the letter hasn’t got more signatories.

    EDIT: Just to clarify, I also believe they should be paid to teach, and any teaching training courses they may take should count towards their course credits.
