Busting the Merkel Myth

  1. > Throughout, Merkel opted to pacify instead of solve: When crisis erupted, she did just enough to defang the acute problem, only to sweep the larger issues that triggered the implosion under the rug. This tendency, critics argue, is her legacy on everything from the integration of the eurozone to refugees and transatlantic relations.

History won’t be kind to Angela Merkel. Thankfully her age of stagnation is coming to an end and it’s time for Europe to evolve.

  2. What a toxic pile of shit this article is, dumping on Angela Merkel because she was never Joan d’Arc.

In the bloody history of Europe, Ms Merkel has delivered decades of relative peace, despite many turbulent events that could easily have resulted in war.

Angela Merkel was a centre-right politician for all her life. She was not in parliament to bring root-and-branch reform, she was there to encourage consensus, stability, and decency in government.

And she did that with spectacular success. As for her petty, shitty critics: The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.
