Why are universities still accepting students when there is a housing crisis!

  1. Simple… Money and the influx of refugees because Europe seems to think we have unlimited land and housing.

  2. Universities make a lot more money from foreign students than domestic. Foreign students pay ‘foreign student fees’ which are easily 10x more than what a domestic student brings in. If you ever wonder why Unis have big drives to entice foreign students, that’s why. They also make a lot of money per head of enrolled domestic student too.

The absolutely do not care about the accommodation crisis after they get their enrollment numbers though.

  3. Anyone want to start a construction company? Built to rent only. It’s the way the world is going so let’s get in first.

  4. Universities aren’t going to just shutter their courses due to the housing crisis. It’s just not how things work.

Course numbers are all over the place after covid / predicted grades as well.

  5. Because they would lose money and our government would lose more money than they are at the moment and also dont have the intelligence or pro-activeness to to something about it.

  6. I’m an Australian looking to move to Ireland next June. These stories aren’t a huge vote of confidence re: my fears of being homeless 🙃🙃🙃🙃

  7. At some point word travels and it would seem Irish universities may not get as many foreign apps. Who wants to go somewhere without proper accommodation?
